In September, researchers and partners on a project investigating climate-driven changes to flood events and floodplain forests in the Upper Mississippi River gathered in the Lake Pepin area. Participants looked at floodplain forest development stages in the field.

Lake Superior is 4-5 degrees warmer now than it was 30 or 40 years ago according to Jay Austin, who conducts research at the Large Lakes Observatory at @UMDSwenson. He expects MN will move into a phase where we have less lake ice and longer summers. cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/c…

How is climate change impacting Minnesota's lakes?

On average, Minnesota has lost 10 to 14 days of lake ice over the past 50 years. Some lakes have lost almost three weeks.
