Liveee from Napa Valley (actually Yountvile): I wrote up @bumble founder and CEO @wolfe_herd refreshing candid interview with @Jessicalessin about the reasons behind the dating app's $1.3 billion deal to sell itself to Ithaca Holdings, announced earlier this month.
“I felt like I was stuck under a wave for like five years,” Wolfe Herd said at The Information’s WTF Summit, in her first interview since Bumble agreed to a sale. “But now I’m on the beach.”

Big scoop.
First Scoop: OpenAI is buying Google's AI chips.
It's a big win for Google’s TPU chip business, which is a growing challenger to Nvidia. Also follows Oracle, which today said it would buy and rent out TPUs to customers.
Talk to Barwick, folks!

Scoop: Anduril wanted a new six-building manufacturing complex near Long Beach Airport up and running by March 1, 2027. But Southern California Edison couldn't have enough grid power ready by then. That problem opened the door to Critical Loop, a startup founded by SpaceX and Palantir veterans, landing its first contract to provide temporary battery backup to giant industrial users. Kurzweil is replicating himself. Sounds right.

This is interesting. @theinformation readers want more intel on Anthropic revenue concentration.

While everyone is busy reading Claude's take on the Anthropic S-1 on X (have you ever seen so many charts!), I am struck by how much tech news there is today that is being overlooked.
This, for one:

Replying to @chamath
Pretty much.
As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers.
SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue.
That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.
I think today’s SpaceX mega debt deal might be an even more important event for the global economy than the Anthropic s-1.
Bingo bango. Potential big M&A is fun.

Recursive self-improvement for humans is a lovely idea.
Right now, 75% of Americans are anxious and afraid about AI. People are even bringing their concerns into their therapy sessions, sorting through everything from how AI impacts their jobs to more existential fears about humanity’s future. These concerns are real. But they’re only part of the story. To go deeper, I sat down with @DanielaAmodei. As president of @AnthropicAI, she is a unique figure in AI.
