Amazing. I remember stumbling across you somewhere around 2009, about a year or so before I started myself. I've often called you the best in the game because I truly believe that. Also doesn't hurt that we have nearly identical experiences/memories/favorites when it comes to 90s WWE (especially Bret stuff) so it was easy for a fan like me to connect with you. You've built a helluva brand on consistency, professionalism, and rationality. Congrats!👊
19 years ago today, I dropped the very first episode of the Solomonster Sounds Off. Almost HALF of all podcasts die after three episodes or less. This weekend marks 988 episodes for me. That's a pretty rare feat and something I'm very proud of. But that also doesn't happen without your support, so THANK YOU for listening. Cheers for 19 more! 🍻

Doc Rivers tells Bill Simmons it was so hard for him to coach Giannis Antetokounmpo during his tenure with the Milwaukee Bucks:
“He’s not easy. He plays at this crazy downhill pace. He’s really a difficult guy. He has this great passing ability, but he doesn’t have a super-high IQ at the same time. He really has only one way of playing. Every play, he wants to force it. I wish he’d learned how to execute better.
“The thing he still needs to learn is the value of execution how important it is, when you’re in practice and at shoot around, to lock in on execution. Now he has a coach who’s as good as there is at execution.”

The WWF production team went through the school of Dick Ebersol during their years as partners in Saturday Night’s Main Event and it became company DNA that carried it to where it is today as the WWE. I remember Kevin Nash talking about when he saw the Wrestlemania 14 lead up and event production in 98. He said it was obvious WCW didn’t have production chops to keep up, even with the advantage of more known names and the TNT platform. Once Vince shifted out of 80s cartoons storylines, into the “reality” era storylines WCW was in, there was no comparison, because WWF’s TV presentation and overall production chops were sooooo far ahead of WCW’s

Did you know that Steve Austin called out Bret Hart on 8/31/96 WWF Superstars? They had ZERO backstage or in-ring attacks between them during the build. Instead, they did interviews, a music video and segments like this to build the match.

I actually agree after running all the numbers.
The only benefit of a shorter season is there are fewer games to get injured in. But the data doesn’t support the schedule, back to backs, etc as a factor in increased injuries.
There also isn’t any support for the idea that load management and more rest days have done anything to reduce injuries.
The injury problem is primarily lower body muscle strains happening early in the season. And that’s something that is most affected by off season and preseason prep and conditioning - not the schedule or style of play.
I’m beginning to think the “injury problem” is really a modern athlete problem with a lack of proper out of season and preseason ramp up/conditioning.
Iman Shumpert goes off on anyone calling for the NBA to shorten its 82 game season, arguing that players should focus on conditioning and changing how they play instead of reducing the number of games.
Shumpert points to legends like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Gary Payton, who played 82 game seasons, questioning why today’s players need fewer games. He believes the league should bring back more physical basketball, with players attacking the post, taking midrange shots, playing through contact and cutting down on flopping and exaggerated moves.
He also questions how much extra time players would actually gain from shortening the season, arguing that changing the way the game is played may be a better solution to the injury problem.
