Imagine a guest gets invited to preach at your church and then says “Jesus isn’t real, you’re all going to hell. Then that person isn’t invited back on the platform. Is that censoring free speech or protecting what’s being said on your own platform?
What if God is saying where you started does not determine how you finish. What if he’s reminding us that he’s never needed “powerful” people to change the world, he’s just looking for those humble enough to “deny themselves”, “pick up their purpose” and “love thy neighbor”.
What if Jesus was born in a cave and not a castle because God wanted to let the world know that the greatest revolution in human history would be started by a man with no money, power, fame, or fashion, but rather by an immigrant carpenter who walked with humility & conviction.
What if “do not conform to the patterns of this world” is less about alcohol or going to a party.
What if it’s more about not building the church on the capitalistic corporate model of the world where “community” is sold to the lonely & “healing & recovery” sold to the hurting.
What if “take every thought captive” is less about sexual attraction or refraining from saying the word “shit.”
What if it‘s more about examining our deeply rooted prejudices, challenging harmful traditions & selfish motivations, and confronting our nationalistic idol worship.
