This is exactly what the Ballon d’Or organisers have been trying to avoid. They knew this would expose years of nepotism. They did everything they could to water down the impact of fans on these awards and even went as far as not presenting this award at the ceremony, just to make it less relevant because the winner is Cristiano.
You can lobby your way into multiple Ballon d’Ors, but you can’t lobby your way into people’s hearts.
