The arrangement we have of dependence on finding an employer to sponsor our survival cannot and should not be considered by anyone as being freedom. It puts all the power into the hands of employers, and as businesses consolidate, our survival is dependent on fewer and fewer and richer and richer people. It is imperative that our survival be disconnected from employment and connected instead to citizenship, or even better, a basic human right to existence. That does not then mean that no one will work just as being born into wealth does not mean rich people do nothing. It is about freedom from domination. Those born into wealth are free from being forced to work for their survival and they use that freedom to CHOOSE their work. If you want a shitty dystopian present and future, by all means, keep insisting that your survival be tied to your employment. Be a good little bootlicker. If you want a better future, fight for unconditional basic income and public services where We the People recognize each other's rights to existence and make sure we all have the freedom that currently only a relatively small percentage of people have. If we cede the power we once gave ourselves via the Constitution to corporations, our democracy will be lost and the good future we can win will be lost along with it. UBI is a key victory in maintaining people power over corporate power and the power of capital (especially as capital performs an increasing amount of labor) by granting the power to say "No" to all employers through democratic participation. That is true bargaining power currently only approachable through unionization of labor, whose power will continue eroding without UBI to undergird it. I absolutely do not want a future where corporations have taken over the role of government, and where freedom is an illusion wrapped in marketing gimmicks. But that is the way things are headed unless we get our shit together and reimpose the power of democratic self-government over the power of corporations and those who own them. Demand UBI or accept dystopia.

AI corp: "So we want to create a world where no one has to work and everyone gets basically everything they want." Rich: "OMG, what about our meaning? Our agency? This is dystopia!" Poor: "Oh sweet. You're telling me I don't have to work a crappy job and can just hang out with my friends and family? We're definitely gonna BBQ a lot!" Rich: "...But what about the meaning? Won't you feel irrelevant?" Poor: "Idk, maybe I'll have more kids. Get back into playing hardcore MMOs. Oh, I can't wait!" Rich: "No, but like, you know, everything is going to be run by AI and robots. That would diminish you, right?" Poor: "Wdym bro? I never ran nothing. I hate politicians. If the robots can do it better, who cares?" Rich: "...But I worked my whole life to be where I am. I... I deserve to be relevant." Poor: "It'll be fine bro. Come join our BBQ." Rich: "...Who's on the guest list?" Poor: "Whoever wants to show up. We get all the food we want!"

Lots of calls for "slowing down"... why aren't the labs calling for a 10x or 100x increased effort in ALIGNMENT work? After all, that is the core issue. ASI that is fully aligned with humanity uplifts everyone.

The way I see it, there are a few big reasons why anti-datacenter sentiment is sweeping the nation right now. And none of them require a psyop (though I'm not discounting the possibility). First, billionaires are super unpopular. When Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman and Larry Ellison all want the same thing, you can reliably predict a popular backlash to that thing. The ordinary person will assume "whatever's good for them is bad for me" and that is an understandable gut reaction. Second, AI represents an existential threat to identity. I've seen more and more people in STEM (and humanities) coming out against AI, saying we should 'carve out' niches so that 'humans can keep doing what they find fun.' The economy has never worked this way. Farriers went the way of the dinosaur. And when you point this out, they almost always become pedantic, passive aggressive, or downright hostile. Third, AI represents an existential threat to some people's livelihood. If you read the writing on the wall and realize "my job is on the chopping block, it's just a matter of time" then you're going to rationally conclude "I should stop this at all costs." Some people want to pivot. Most people either cannot or will not pivot. So they sabotage the system. There's no solving the first problem. People are going to hate billionaires forever. If you want to get the common voter on the side of data centers, they are going to have see "what's in it for me?" It always comes back to incentives. And I don't just mean 'buy off the farmer with the land' I mean create a political settlement, a democratic institution, that will reward people for allowing data centers to go in. They need to see a path forward. More importantly, they need to see that they can win. That their livelihood can be secured, that their identity won't be threatened. Now, plenty of economists suggest "augment, don't automate!" But again, this is stupid. The free market has never been sentimental about jobs that humans like to do. The instant that humans become the bottleneck, they get replaced. Simple as that. And with the speed and intensity of automation coming, in the form of AI and robotics, humans are going to be the limiting factor in most value streams very soon. I'm not saying "create a jobs guarantee" - that's dehumanizing and wasteful. No, the obvious solution is to give citizens an ownership stake in the automated future. That means they get dividends from productivity. Create sovereign wealth funds, UBI, state wealth funds, ESOPs, EOTs, and other cooperatives and trusts. Do whatever you can to put wealth in the hands of households, and in exchange they will walk out of the office forever. That is the core of post-labor economics. Shifting from a wage-centric distribution mechanism to a capital-centric allocation regime.

Being against UBI is totally fine. But so many of the arguments people make against it insult my intelligence. For example, the idea that if people aren't forced to work, they will lose all meaning. Many people dislike their jobs so much that they would trade working just to survive for the possibilities downtime opens up. Since when do we find meaning in doing something we despise? Has work for survival become our new idol? What about spiritual work, reading and studying, teaching, family time, growing food, working out, enjoying hobbies, and so forth? I'd flip this whole conversation—the fact that so many people think work is the primary source of meaning is a bigger problem than people having the option not to work. And UBI wouldn’t make working impossible; it just means people could be much more selective about what kind of work they do. That’s freedom and agency at its best.

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

🚨 SAM ALTMAN JUST REVEALED THE BLUEPRINT FOR ASI Sam Altman just went on record with Axios to drop the most accelerationist warning we've ever seen. OpenAI isn't just building towards AGI anymore they have officially updated their messaging to declare a "transition toward superintelligence." Altman is explicitly warning of imminent, world-shaking cyberattacks, social upheaval, and machines humanity can't control. The economic disruption will be so severe that OpenAI is literally begging Washington to wake up and implement a "New Deal" for the AI era. Here are the 6 radical ideas OpenAI just proposed in their official blueprint to keep society functioning: • A Public Wealth Fund: A national sovereign fund seeded by AI companies to distribute AI-generated wealth directly back to citizens. • Robot Taxes: Taxing automated labor and corporate AI earnings to offset the massive, imminent job disruption. • Higher Capital Gains Taxes: Hiking taxes on top earners to fund the transition and redistribute the concentration of AI wealth. • The Four-Day Workweek: Incentivizing a 4-day workweek with no loss of pay to share the massive efficiency gains directly with the workers. • Universal AI Access: Treating basic AI access (Universal Basic Compute) as a fundamental human right, just like electricity or literacy. • A Rapid Social Safety Net: Massively expanding unemployment benefits, Medicaid, and Social Security for the workers permanently displaced by AI. The CEO of the most powerful AI lab in the world is telling the government that the coming disruption will be on the scale of the Great Depression. I think we ought listen.

Universal high income would not just mean people having more money. It would mean millions of humans finally being released from the constant low-grade panic that shapes almost every life decision today. Imagine waking up without the background fear of rent, bills, food, status, survival. Imagine choosing what matters based on meaning, curiosity, love, beauty, health, mastery, community, instead of economic desperation. Some people think that world would make humanity lazy. I think it would expose who we really are. A lot of today’s “productivity” is not purpose. It is coercion with better branding. In a world with universal high income, the most human parts of life could stop being side quests. Raising children. Making art. Building strange things. Caring for each other. Learning deeply. Starting over. Healing. Thinking. Living. Yes, some people would drift. But many more would finally have the space to become themselves. That is the part critics miss. The goal of civilization should not be to maximize the number of people trapped in necessary labor. It should be to maximize freedom, dignity, and human flourishing. AI and automation could give us that world. Not a world where people are obsolete. A world where survival is no longer the price of existing.

Tax wealth and distribute universal basic income as a dividend share of productivity growth. That's the new and rising floor to protect everyone from the worst and make sure everyone benefits. Also do universal healthcare to fully decouple survival from jobs. And 4-day 32hr weeks as a time dividend.
Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men on earth, is raising $100 billion to replace workers with robots around the world. The oligarchs want it all. Not going to happen. Stand up and FIGHT BACK.

Ridiculous. UBI treats people as adults. It trusts people. It says I see you are a living, breathing human being with a basic human right to resources. The moment land was privatized, we were all owed basic income. Jobs have a place on top of UBI, but don't you dare guarantee me a job instead of UBI. I have a job. Productivity is about to grow in a big way, and we should all benefit from that. We all deserve our share. We all trained the AI with all our data. Stockholders get dividends, not an IOU for a job. scottsantens.com/the-spaceba…
