I am deeply saddened by the passing of Mama CPD, Elizabeth Wanjiri. We served together on the @LawSocietyofKe where she co-convened the Gender Committee, and was a member of the CPD and Editorial Committees, among others. A dedicated advocate and servant of the profession, she championed accessible online CPD trainings, free Certificates of Good Standing for fully paid-up members and the adoption of an e-journal. Her commitment and service will be fondly remembered. My heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues and the entire legal fraternity. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

A beautiful soul has been plucked from us. 💔 Winnie was a truly wonderful human being, kind, hardworking, dependable and someone who always showed up. She was a fighter and always looking for ways to improve herself and make things around her better. I had the privilege of working with Winnie four years ago, and her work ethic was exceptional. She was meticulous, had an incredible eye for detail and always wanted to understand what was happening around her. She was constantly learning, building and looking ahead. Winnie, I will miss your check-ins, your kindness, your warmth, your determination and those conversations about life, work and Baby K. Rest in eternal peace, Wakili. May eternal light shine upon you, and may your soul rest in peace. 🕊️ To Baby K, Winnie's family, friends and everyone who loved her, my deepest and most sincere condolences.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Council, led by President Charles Kanjama, SC, today held a branch visit to the LSK South Eastern Branch at Kyaka Hotel, Machakos. The forum brought together members of the Branch and the Society's leadership for an open and interactive discussion on matters affecting legal practice, the administration of justice, the Rule of Law, and the continued growth and development of the legal profession. Members had the opportunity to raise issues affecting their practice, share experiences from the region, and engage directly with the Council on the Society's ongoing programmes, priorities and strategic direction. Also present was the Advocates Benevolent Association (ABA), led by its Chairman, Byron Menezes, who briefed members on the Association's mandate and the range of welfare initiatives available to advocates. The session highlighted the importance of investing in members' well-being and encouraged advocates to actively participate in programmes that promote professional and personal welfare. Addressing members, President Charles Kanjama, SC, reaffirmed the Council's commitment to a member-centred Society that remains responsive to the needs and aspirations of advocates across all branches. He emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with members, strengthening the independence of the legal profession, safeguarding the Rule of Law, and enhancing the quality of legal services through collaboration, innovation and shared responsibility. The engagement forms part of the Law Society of Kenya's ongoing outreach programme aimed at strengthening ties with members across the country, promoting dialogue between the Council and the Bar, and ensuring that the concerns and perspectives of advocates continue to shape the Society's policies, programmes and advocacy efforts.

STATEMENT TO MEMBERS ON JUDICIAL ACCOUNTABILITY, THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE AND THE WAY FORWARD. The Law Society of Kenya has today issued a statement to members outlining the Council's position on judicial accountability, the administration of justice, and the way forward in addressing persistent challenges affecting the justice sector. The statement follows sustained engagement between the Society, the Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission, and members of the Bar, during which advocates across the country raised concerns relating to judicial accountability, delays in the administration of justice, registry inefficiencies, case management, the working environment for advocates, and the overall efficiency and integrity of the justice system. While reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the independence of the Judiciary and the rule of law, the Society has announced a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening accountability, promoting institutional reforms, enhancing structured engagement with key justice sector stakeholders, and improving the administration of justice for the benefit of advocates and the public. The Society shall undertake a nationwide boycott of court proceedings on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026. The Society shall also undertake targeted physical boycotts of courts presided over by Judges and Judicial Officers who have obtained court orders stopping or otherwise preventing the Judicial Service Commission or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission from exercising their constitutional mandates of investigating or processing complaints or allegations of corruption or misconduct against those Judges or Judicial Officers. The Council has called upon all members to remain united, professional, and steadfast as the Society implements these resolutions in pursuit of a more transparent, efficient, and accountable justice system.
