HALO will be at the #LabourConference on Sunday, hosting a reception with @MAGsaveslives and @LabourFPG on the role the UK and its partners can play in helping to address the global rise in conflict.
🪖 We face the highest number of active conflicts since #WWII.
🌍 2 billion people (1/4 of the world’s population) live in conflict-affected areas - increasingly in urban areas.
💥 There are over 120 armed conflicts globally, involving over 60 states and 120 non-state groups. #Landmine use is rising for the first time in decades.
🆘 Forced displacement is at a post-war high of 110 million people. Nearly 300 million people will require humanitarian aid & protection in 2025.
⚠️ Increased use of improvised explosive devices is just one example of how the threat of explosive ordnance has evolved over the last decade.
📈 The global cost of violence in 2024 was $20 trillion – equivalent to the GDP of China being lost every year.

The shift from the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) to the new UK Integrated Security Fund (UKISF) risks downgrading the UK’s efforts to address evolving global conflicts: bit.ly/3UU9cc4 @TheHALOTrust's @Calumcraig & @Saferworld's @LewiBrooks for @LabourFPG

Thanks @LabourFPG for hosting this blog from @CalumCraig01 & I on changes in UK security funding. We argue that positive innovations may be lost if a narrow framing of national security dominates the new UK Integrated Security Fund and it doesn't pivot to address future conflict
NEW BLOG: @TheHALOTrust's @Calumcraig & @Saferworld's @LewiBrooks take a look what impact the shift from the CSSF to the government's new UK Integrated Security Fund (UKISF) will have: labourforeignpolicy.org.uk/p…

Great thought piece from @DavidLammy in @ForeignAffairs
People from the Global South reading this, will think finally someone gets it. "A progressive realism worth its name begins by being honest about assumptions the West made in the past that turned out to be wrong."
@b_judah
Progressive Realism will underpin @UKLabour's foreign policy approach.
It takes the world as it is. Not as we wish it to be. It is realist means for progressive ends.
Today I’ve published ‘The Case for Progressive Realism’ in @ForeignAffairs 👇🏿
