Wildland firefighters are firefighters. Canada’s job classification system still says otherwise. Today on Parliament Hill, MP @GordJohns, BCGEU’s @paulgfinch and Sebastian Kallos, and our own @BertBlundon called on Ottawa to fix it.

Our latest Photo of the Week is from Portugal where 17 October saw a national one-day warning strike by Portuguese public sector workers organized by CGTP. The issue? Wages that are not keeping pace with increasing costs. (Photo: CGTP)

Protect it now or lose it for good. #Unifor National President @lanampayne told BC Regional Council that Canada has to defend its mills, mines, refineries and auto plants today, or there will be nothing left when Trump is gone. #cdnpoli #canlab

The single most striking characteristic of this election is low turnout - perhaps the lowest in 30 years. both main parties recieved less overall votes than in '24. Obviously worse for the NDP at 250k+ less. Consider this when assessing the various spins on the results in the coming weeks.

Conservatives and Liberals are working together to ram Bill C-39 through Parliament. They don’t want to hear from Canadians, and they are afraid to have their legislation scrutinized. New Democrats are standing up for Canadians whose voices are being ignored.

That's a strong ruling in favour of the union. Reminds us of the ruling in BC that favoured Unifor over Amazon's bad behaviour.
Unifor has secured an exceptional ruling from the Canada Industrial Relations Board ordering Best Theratronics Ltd. to compensate workers for lost wages and pension contributions and reimburse the union for supporting members during nearly eight months of strike action. buff.ly/eEuNCrO #canlab

We’re heartbroken by the deadly fire at CFB Wainwright. Our condolences go to the families of the service members lost, and our thoughts are with everyone injured. Thank you to the first responders and health care workers, many of them our members, who answered the call. Read our full statement: nupge.ca/2026/statement-on-t…

For those who still struggle to understand union democracy including too many in positions of power. This is it. 1000s of Local 444 members who work at Stellantis showing up to support their bargaining committee in a strike authorization vote. Solidarity.
What a turnout. What a show of solidarity. 💪 Thank you, Local 444, for showing up and standing together. #444Proud #444bargaining

Support the right to strike. Support fair collective bargaining. Support unions. No nation on the planet has achieved shared progress without strong unions and strong collective bargaining rights.
Bill C-39 sets up a new Ministerial superpower to unilaterally end a strike, end negotiations, and send your contract to an arbitrator for their final say. But we can’t build a strong Canada without strong unions. unifor.org/c39

When you factor in wage increases over the last two contracts plus inflation during that time and leading up to this past summer, wages for these workers are 21% behind inflation.
