BREAKING: The U.S. Army is preparing to stress-test America’s manufacturing capacity and supply chains. In early 2027, Army facilities and private manufacturers will compete in the first-ever “Manufacturing Rodeo,” designed to expose bottlenecks in America’s defense industrial base.

It's finally here! At last we have phase-3 results for retatrutide! So, did the drug join the scores of pharmaceuticals that fail at this last crucial step? If you've tried retatrutide recently, you'll realize the answer is 'no': it performed amazingly🧵

For reference on how bad US military industry is the most useless car company in the world is pulling off “impossible” production miracles immediately after entering the market
Pretty cool that General Motors was able to retool a car factory to make the outer shells of the Patriot missiles. They've managed to make the delivery to Lockheed just 22 days after signing the contract. (22 days!!!!! We still got it...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸) Lockheed says this work normally takes months or years for the previous supplier (General Dynamics) to fulfill. There's a strain of neoliberal thinking that says if domestic carmakers can’t compete, they should just be allowed to fail. No bailouts. Just let Japan or China make cars because of comparative advantage or whatever. Imagine if we had believed that automobile manufacturing was something to offshore. It's now clear that the argument for preserving that industrial base is not simply nostalgia for a previous bygone era. It simply is the case that you cannot improvise precision manufacturing overnight once it has disappeared.

Americans are innovators 60 million Americans need water from the Colorado River Cloud seeding is an American innovation that provides water to: - help our farmers and cattlemen - housing developments and industry - make ecosystems, like the Great Salt Lake, beautiful

Crazy, unexpected science news today: the brain is actually 2 colocated but independent organs that develop from 2 totally separate progenitor cells in early development. Big implications for some research areas (eg ALS) & for creating ethical brainless clones for transplant.

So here's my call to action: If you are a company that is trying to make your product accessible to Al agents, build a good API and API key system as your base layer. Then advertise it as the most reliable way to connect an agent! You will still need to put out an MCP, annoyingly, because your customers will ask for it. But the MCP can just be a cheap wrapper around the API key system, and this is a much more sound architecture. If your users want to torture themselves with MCP, thats their choice. They can always choose to bail once they have had enough, and your API key system will be ready for them.

I’ve successfully run the full retained MaleCNS v1.0 fruit fly connectome, all 166,700 neurons, inside Minecraft, with its simulated neural activity driving a fly’s movement. V1 Currently in development. Built with the help of GPT-6 Astra. Props to the @OpenAI team and @thsottiaux for this release. Code and mod coming soon!
For the first time, scientists have mapped the complete brain and central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly — a key model organism in science. 🪰 Working alongside HHMI Janelia Research Campus and the scientific community, @GoogleResearch scientists and researchers used AI to combine millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, reconstructing a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons. This foundational map of the adult male fruit fly brain can help accelerate our understanding of the brain, and is a major milestone in neuroscience.

the single thing that would most accelerate our work at @ScienceCorp_ is a connectome the mouse is probably only ~$300M away, something highly worth funding
Introducing a complete map of the male fruit fly brain and central nervous system, created in partnership with @HHMIJanelia. With over 166,000 neurons, this is the largest cellular brain map to date. Learn more: goo.gle/4qQTtIW

Rainmaker just produced ~19M gallons of water in Alaska via next-gen cloud seeding over 3 hours of operations. We are the first company to provably produce precipitation in Alaska. As promised, we’ve linked our white paper and relevant data. In the future, Rainmaker will protect and restore glaciers with man-made snowfall. Immediately, this demonstration shows how Rainmaker will add new water to the Colorado River and Great Salt Lake in the coming months. We turned around this analysis and white paper just a couple days after operating. There are many data sources I want to deepen our understanding of the atmosphere and increase our provable production; we’re building the instruments to collect that data in subsequent operations. But at Rainmaker, we won’t tout LOIs, simulations, or lab tests. What matters is physically measuring that you’ve affected the atmosphere; proving that we’ve produced water. We prefer sharing only the tech that has proven to make more water for farms, industries, and ecosystems in need. Expect a regular cadence of these from us as we build the best atmospheric science lab in the world. Feedback is welcome in the interim. Rainmaker Century. rainmaker.com/blog/alaska-va…

Now @SciGuySpace reports NASA is in a tizzy because after running the most successful launcher ever for more than a decade and nearing 1000 launches, @SpaceX is planning to retire Falcon in favor of Starship in a few years. Sorry, NASA, you've had 15 years to burn down the decadal survey with unconditional cheap reliable launch abundance. "Woah dude, now we have to adapt our plans for Starship? We were just becoming aware of Falcon!" This drives me crazy. For the SMD budget we could have had an orbiter, lander, and rover sent to every planet every year since 2016. Literally hundreds of spacecraft. The objections you hear to these ideas will boggle your mind. "We don't have the budget to operate 100 spacecraft." Somehow SpaceX runs a 10000 satellite constellation with like two guys and a shell script. "If we figure out how to run a fleet of spacecraft with just a few people, do you want to fire the current operations team?" Not to put too fine a point on it but a bunch of them are dying of old age and the ones under 40 are leaving JPL for jobs that pay a living wage. "Our cost estimation department doesn't know how to handle building more than one of something." My brother have you heard of mass production? "JPL's future business is Mars sample return and some outer planet moon mission." How's that working out? NASA exists in response to Sputnik and to guarantee our future among the stars is not run by communists. It is currently losing very badly.
NASA has been building robotic lunar rover prototypes for decades. Why is the Moon not crawling with them? Because NASA insists on running a Survivor beauty pageant for everything and the lunar rovers were always the bridesmaid never the bride. We haven't had a shortage of launchers for a decade, but all this capability remains stuck in development hell, and meanwhile China understands that you can just Do Things and there they are.

The Women of Miletus had this memetic mental illness where they romanticized suicides. There was an epidemic of young women killing themselves, and subsequently becoming the center of attention of mourning crowds. To stop this epidemic they dragged the last batch of young suicides naked through the town square in shame. The epidemic of suicides was ended. The stigma is an important one. You must be careful what behavior you incentivize.
My niece committed suicide in 2018. I absolutely refuse to dishonour her memory by attaching "stigma" to suicide. There is no shame or disgrace in what she did. There is only the tragedy of a life cut short, and the grief of those who loved her. The same applies to Jason Ardray.
