Delighted to share our paper on the influence of the #NodeOfRanvier on in vivo #axonaltransport of #mitochondria and #signallingendosomes @iScience_CP @SchiavoMNPlab @J_N_Slayer @samuscientist. A project that started in 2018 but has finally seen the light of day!

Great to see Tram's paper online showing that rTMS increased interneuron activity following demyelination and increased remyelination by new and surviving oligodendrocytes. Thanks to coauthors including @DrCarlieCullen , @AlastairFortune , @LauraReale12 , @Tomlewis2310 .

NEW PAPER: We generated Oligodendroglial Progenitor Cells (OPCs) from hiPSCs harboring FUS mutations. Our results demonstrated the pathological role of mutant FUS in OPCs, highlighting the significance of glial cells in FUS-ALS. link.springer.com/article/10…

Our paper is out! We directly show that TDP-43 build up in neurons of the motor cortex can drive a hyper excitability phenotype that propagates through the corticomotor system to cause lower motor neuron death. Critical proof of concept!! Funded by @MND_RIA and @nhmrc

This regional vulnerability was associated with alterations in pre-synaptic proteins, where an increase in excitatory inputs occurred in all lumbar regions, but in lumbar regions 4-6 where lower motor neuron number was normal, there was local upregulation of inhibitory inputs.

This indicates the balanced excitatory/inhibitory inputs is protective for these cells.
