On the last day of #ILPPW2026, we express our gratitude to Dr Leslie Adogame, a recognised leader on lead paint elimination in Nigeria.
His NGO, @sradev Nigeria, ran one of the country’s first paint studies in 2016, and he and his team played a pivotal role in drafting and gazetting the country's lead paint regulation and encouraging manufacturers to switch to lead-free materials. #LeadFreeFuture
Meet all of this week’s #LeadEliminationHeroes: leadelimination.org/lead-eli…
Meet one of our final #LeadEliminationHeroes, Khawja Gulam Mohiuddin of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).
Through his leadership, the lead paint market share in Pakistan fell from 88% in 2021 to 41% in 2024, protecting an estimated 8 million children. #LeadFreeFuture
Meet all of our heroes from #ILPPW2026: leadelimination.org/lead-eli…
Since 2021, we have worked with Steve Afuleni - one of our #LeadEliminationHeroes - and the @BureauMalawi to help them test paint for lead and enforce regulations. As a result of our partnership, the share of brands using lead-based materials has fallen from 89% to 4% in the most recent follow-up.

Meet more #LeadEliminationHeroes: the Lead in Paint Project team in Madagascar's Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
With LEEP’s support, they drafted the country's decree on lead in paint, approved by the Council of Government in September 2026. If adopted, this will set a legal limit on lead in paint. LEEP’s work in Madagascar has the potential to protect 2M children from lead exposure in their homes.

In Peru, Elmer Quichiz Romero has strengthened the government's work on lead paint regulation and its implementation, and shared the country’s experience with other Latin American countries where LEEP is working.
His contribution demonstrates how committed public officials can translate evidence and partnerships into practical steps to prevent lead exposure. #LeadEliminationHeroes
#ILPPW2026
In Côte d'Ivoire, LEEP’s work has the potential to protect 1.9 million children from lead exposure in their homes. One of our key partners is Dr Claude François Koffi.
Dr Koffi has championed Côte d'Ivoire's interministerial order setting a 90 ppm limit for lead in decorative paints, which was recently signed by the Minister of Health, opening the way for signatures from the other relevant ministries.
He is passionate about the issue of lead and is a committed advocate for action, making him one of our #LeadEliminationHeroes.
#ILPPW2026
Another of our #LeadEliminationHeroes this week is N'po Tissama Y. Hervé. He coordinated Togo's draft order setting a 90 ppm limit for lead in paint and is awaiting final signatures.
LEEP continues to support this effort, and we commend N’po’s consistent follow-up, which has kept the process moving.
#ILPPW2026 #LeadFreeFuture
Meet another of our #LeadEliminationHeroes: Michael Musenga.
Mr Musenga has campaigned to end childhood lead poisoning for more than 15 years, serving as National Lead Elimination Advisor and helping gazette a voluntary 90 ppm standard for lead in paint. Through the Children’s Environmental Health Foundation, Michael has raised awareness of lead poisoning and convened workshops to accelerate regulations.

To mark International #LeadPoisoningPrevention Week, we are highlighting #LeadEliminationHeroes who are critical in our work – from detection to prevention – to eliminate lead exposure at the source.
As the Quality Manager for Hayat in Uzbekistan, Murad Kudratkhujaev led the reformulation of 31M litres a year of previously leaded paint and is increasingly an advocate for lead alternatives. Murad has been critical to our progress in removing lead paint from the market in Uzbekistan.

In Pakistan, we partnered with the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) on a multimedia campaign to raise awareness of lead in turmeric.
SFA then visited almost 80 shops in Hyderabad and Karachi, where they found 82% of vendors in the markets knew the message about identifying suspected adulterated whole dried roots.
