I love finding a #1 listing in a competitive SERP that has at least 90% of its links coming from paid niche edits and blogspot blogs.

This place is great. Right next to our office. Terrible to see, especially after all the work they put into the building the last few years.

So as much as you want to track the algorithm and your rankings, you should be tracking the SERPs themselves (with @serpwoo of course). It will allow you to learn Google's intent.
It's very evident by their updates are not all about the user...or your backlinks 🙃

As per the rest, Sitemaps.
But you can submit multiple, prioritising top/vital pages first.
You can also target specific URLs (top/vital) with the URL inspection tool.

Old and new XML sitemaps both at once (pull the old one and resubmit it to nudge them). Once the index sorts out, you can pull the old one. Search Console request indexing on as many of the new top-level URLs as you can stand. Make sure internal links are all to the new URLs.

Unconventional #SEO tip 👇
Create a basic, crappy website.
Create a GMB profile for it, but don't claim it.
Wait for the pitches to come in from SEO agencies and consultants.
Learn what they do well, that you can steal.
Learn what they do wrong, so you don't do it yourself.

I can’t remember the last time I searched for something and spent 20+ minutes reading a single article about it.

Y'all. Seriously. Stop doing free audits. People rarely take action on them and they cheapen the entire industry.

In addition to physically visiting the location, we've seen Maps prompt to leave a review if you've:
1. Visited their website
2. Tapped the phone # on their listing
3. Tapped on the share profile link
