Police Are Increasingly Pulling People Over Because AI Deems Their Driving Patterns โSuspiciousโ
-----
Police are using AI-powered license-plate surveillance to identify people as โsuspiciousโ based simply on their travel patterns.
Systems using ALPR data can analyze where someone has driven and flag ordinary behaviorโsuch as traveling between statesโas potentially criminal.
Those AI alerts are leading to โpretextualโ traffic stops.
Instead of telling drivers they were flagged by surveillance, officers may cite a minor traffic violation to justify pulling them over, questioning them, and sometimes searching their vehicles.
The ACLU warns this represents a major expansion of mass surveillance: rather than using license-plate records to investigate someone already suspected of a crime, AI can continuously analyze the movements of millions of innocent people and generate suspicion where none previously existed, potentially including associations, political activity, protests, and travel.

Activist arrested for placing signs on Flock cameras
-----
I'm passing this press release along:
For Immediate Release 10/26/2026
Indivisible Ogden
Local community activist David Belnap was arrested on Sunday for placing signs identifying the locations of ALPR AI surveillance cameras, commonly known as 'Flock'.
Information about surveillance technology, such as camera locations and use, should be freely available to the public.
By placing signs, ones that do not obstruct the camera's use, Mr. Belnap provided information that should already be accessible to the public.
Agencies across Weber County, including the Weber County Sheriff's Office, various municipalities, and private businesses, operate hundreds of AI surveillance ALPR cameras.
These cameras are leased from companies including Flock, Motorola, Axon, and others.
No official registry lists ALPR camera locations, and community advocates struggle to get information agency by agency.
Significant gaps remain in Utah's ALPR policy as an ever-interconnected world creates more avenues for abuse and misuse.
According to the Utah Civic Compact, the Weber County Sheriffโs ALPR data was searched five million times, with 96% of those searches coming from outside Utah, including 125,719 from federal agencies.
Utah law offers some protections against agency misuse of this technology, but none limit how companies use the data analyzed from ALPR systems.
Local community activists were notified that sheriff's deputies were harassing Mr. Belnap while placing non-obstructing markers identifying the location of AI surveillance cameras.
Activists arrived at the location to find Mr. Belnap's car being towed, and Mr. Belnap arrested.
The County has not yet made bail available to Mr. Belnap.
We demand that the Sheriff's Department not arrest people who simply want to clearly mark when civil rights are being endangered by privatized surveillance.
We are asking community members to speak out against injustice.
Contact the Weber County Sheriff about the arrest of Mr. Belnap; your state representative to ask for clear policy governing ALPR companies and agencies; and your mayor or city councilor to ask them not to spend tax dollars on AI surveillance technology.
On Monday, Oct. 26th, join us at 4 p.m. to stand in solidarity for our valued colleague.
We will gather by the road leaving the jail, at the NW corner of 12th and Depot Drive (700 West 12th Street), to demand his release!
Then join us on TUESDAY, Oct. 27th, at 6:00 p.m. for a Community Forum on FLOCK cameras at Pleasant Valley Library, 5568 S. Adams Ave., Washington Terrace, in the Black Box Theatre.

Modders have unlocked hidden AI compute performance on NVIDIAโs RTX 20, 30 and 40-series GPUs.
The modifications remove software-level limits on certain Tensor Core operations, without changing the hardware or flashing a new VBIOS.
- RTX 4090: 165.6 โ 331.6 TFLOPS FP16 Tensor Core throughput
-RTX 3090 Ti: 87.5 โ 157.4 TFLOPS BF16 performance
- RTX 2080 Ti: 59.9 โ 111 TFLOPS FP16โFP32 performance
- RTX 3090: 73.0 โ 122.8 TFLOPS in a PyTorch GEMM test
The gains are mainly relevant to AI and compute workloads, not gaming.

A photo of a bathroom is uploaded, and the system returns an exact street address.
Graylark Technologies sells an AI tool called Raven that geolocates interior pictures by matching features against millions of scraped real estate listings.
Graylark claims the system helps police locate trafficking victims.
People encounter this when any indoor photo goes online.
By scraping Zillow and Airbnb in violation of their terms, Raven turns temporary real estate photos into a permanent surveillance database, exposing homeowners without their knowledge.
While marketed for severe exploitation cases, Graylark recently demonstrated the AI tracking people who vandalized a street camera, showing police will expand its use.
Anyone whose home was listed online is now permanently cataloged.
No law stops police from using commercial algorithms to bypass physical warrants.

MSI Afterburner is giving NVIDIA GPU owners access to hidden settings with its latest 4.6.7 Beta 5 update.
The new โout-of-warrantyโ mode unlocks advanced controls for GPU clocks, voltage and temperature limits, along with more detailed hardware monitoring.
These settings could be useful for enthusiasts who want more control over their graphics cards, but be careful. Changing the wrong settings can affect power limits and thermal protection, and MSI wonโt cover problems caused by using these controls.
