Always good to see the Government take a leaf out of the @LibDems book. Even if they are a year late!
Plenty of time to get in a cheeky round of heads or tails…
Lib Dem leadership showdown:
- 4-hours has been carved out in MPs' diaries for their meeting at 5pm today, to accommodate requests from more than 40 people to speak (and breaks in proceedings for votes). Roz Savage, as chair of the parliamentary party, will chair the meeting.
- So far, I've counted 21 MPs who've explicitly - or at least appeared - to back Ed Davey. That leaves a *lot* still undeclared. The rebels need 18 (or 25% of MPs) to force a no-confidence vote.
- Davey's critics are digging in - and hoping his performance tonight swings sceptics in their favour. They say even if he survives tonight, it's a matter of "when, not if" he goes.
- Davey's allies accuse the rebels of "trying to create chaos at a pivotal moment, with the timing of the next general election up in the air". He has spoken to some MPs to encourage them to speak in support of him tonight.
- Some MPs privately think Davey should go, but are divided over who should replace him - further splintering the rebels.

EXCLUSIVE: Reform UK did not break any laws when senior party figures were recorded by undercover journalists discussing a £500,000 gift from a foreign donor, an internal investigation has concluded.
A 27-page report, commissioned by Reform, after a Channel 4 investigation into funding also cleared the party of wrongdoing over the funding of three opinion polls.

Did you know 8 of the top 10 recycling councils in England are Lib Dem led?
Mid Suffolk, a Green majority council, ranks 162nd, and Brighton was among the worst in the country when they ran it.
@OllyGrender put the figures to the government in the Lords in April.

Really pleased to launch my campaign today to stop students being forced to feed their work into AI training models.
Turnitin's recent licensing changes mean that by next year, students at the 98% of UK universities using its software could have no real choice but to hand their work to machine learning models just to get a grade.
Submitting an essay for marking shouldn't mean signing it away to train AI. A student's work is their own.
We've written to Universities UK, the Russell Group, and the Education and AI Ministers, asking them to work together on a solution that protects students' intellectual property and gives them a genuine choice.
Saddened to hear this. Christine is a champion of liberalism and a stalwart of our party, always fighting to keep us true to our values. I feel lucky and proud to have briefly worked with her to help turn those values into action.
Thank you, CJ, wishing you all the very best! 🧡
I’ve taken the decision not to stand as Lib Dem candidate in Edinburgh West at the next GE. It has been a fantastic decade. I want to thank @EdwardJDavey for all his support over the years. I’m confident our next chapter will be even more successful and I’m sad I won’t be there.

If not us, Who? If not now, When?
We are the party that introduced same-sex marriage, our leader abolished section 28.
We have and will always stand up for the LGBT+ community, not just when it’s easy but when it is hard.
No one should be enslaved by ignorance or conformity.

My first Lib Dem Conference was as a 16-year-old nearly 20 years ago. Great to be back as Deputy Leader of a London council.
Millions feel politically homeless. We need to win in our diverse cities and inspire more young and diverse people to join us and stand for election.

The Liberal Democrats were the first political party to support trans people changing their legal gender back in 1998... when Paddy Ashdown was leader.

Everyone deserves to live in safety and with dignity.
We urgently need new, workable and inclusive guidance that protects the rights of women and trans people alike. These rights are not in competition – both are essential to a fair society.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for the government to go further in tackling crypto billionaires getting into our politics.

Unlimited donations from unaccountable sources are a threat to democratic integrity. We need action now.
We're calling on the Government to introduce emergency legislation to cap political donations. Last week we raised this in the Commons. This week we've chased the minister again, because this cannot wait.

We’ve all seen with our own eyes Farage’s true colours.
The stench of corruption around Reform’s inner circle is repellent.
We welcome the Met Police’s criminal inquiry into their finances.
Farage has always behaved as though the rules apply to everyone but him. These allegations against Reform look like the latest example.
Lib Dem Cabinet Office spokesperson @LisaSmartMP has written to the police and the electoral commission asking them to investigate.

24 hours a day would be a massive shock to the system of a man who turns up so rarely he must struggle to find his own office
If Reform gain power Nigel Farage says his party will "declare a national emergency" and recess will be cancelled
"Parliament will sit, if necessary, for 24 hours a day," he adds

“It worked, boom.”
That’s Nigel Farage celebrating a Reform UK plot to break election law - by having a US company secretly pay for three influential political polls that benefitted the party.
Earlier in the investigation, Reform’s Head of Policy James Orr and senior advisor Dan Jukes arranged for a Verbatim reporter to pay for the polls through a US company. Orr and Jukes believed the firm was run by the reporter’s American father.
Mr Farage was filmed by undercover reporters from @Verbatim_Media as part of a year-long investigation that Channel 4 News has thoroughly checked and verified.
This meeting took place in his Clacton constituency in July - when Mr Farage was fighting a by-election he called after separate allegations about his finances.

🥳 WE DID IT! 👏
🚌 My fantastic team ordered these giant cut-out frames for our parliamentary drop-in campaigning to scrap disabled bus pass time restrictions, ahead of my 10 minute rule bill in a few weeks time - and now it’s happening.
⏰ Disabilities don’t start at 9am, neither should disabled bus passes - and soon, they won’t! – at Harrogate, England
