When discussing the Great Highway in San Francisco, it’s important to understand these points:
1. What’s already been decided?
2. What’s proposed for the future?
3. What’s staying the same?
Watch this short video or read a longer explanation here: engardio.com/blog/great-high…
WHAT’S ALREADY BEEN DECIDED
Both directions of the Great Highway south of Sloat are set to close due to coastal erosion. This has already been legislated. That means we will never again be able to use the Great Highway as a direct connection to Daly City and the 280. Traffic from Daly City will have to use Skyline and go around the zoo. Traffic from San Francisco will need to turn left at Sloat and continue south past Lake Merced.
WHAT’S PROPOSED FOR THE FUTURE
Without a direct connection to Daly City, we have to think about what is the best use of the section between Lincoln and Sloat. This is an opportunity to reimagine the space for the next century as an oceanside park. This includes improving traffic flow on Lincoln and Sunset Boulevard to get people where they need to go.
WHAT’S STAYING THE SAME
The Great Highway will remain open to cars 24/7 from the Richmond neighborhoods to Lincoln allowing full access to the Cliff House, Beach Chalet, soccer fields, the Ocean Beach parking lot, and anywhere in the Sunset from Lincoln.

During #theBlitz crowds of people sought refuge in London’s Underground stations to escape the nightly bombardments by the German Air Force.
The sculptor #HenryMoore (1898 – 1986) documented these scenes in hundreds of haunting sketches known as the #ShelterDrawings.

Now open at The Courtauld Gallery - Henry Moore: Shadows on the Wall 🎨
Explore Moore's celebrated Shelter drawings, and how the walls of these spaces came to absorb his attention in an altogether new way.

Michael Farris’s views on public schools (he called them a “godless monstrosity”) were once seen as so radical that they helped tank his 1993 run for lieut gov of Virginia.
Now, his ideas are at the center of GOP politics. washingtonpost.com/education…

.@lpolgreen is 100% right here. There are two Americas: one informed and one not. In the not-informed America, civic engagement plummets, conspiracy theories and misinformation run rampant, and democracy is at risk #morelocalnews #txlege nytimes.com/2023/06/13/opini…

2/ This transaction marks the first known instance of money flowing directly from Crow to Thomas.
Like the lavish trips Crow provided for the justice, Thomas failed to disclose the real estate deal as appears to be required by law.

We asked @OpenAI's image generator DALL-E to think up some classic Mission murals. Here are some of the results:
