On World Elephant Day, I want to clear up a misconception. Temple elephants arenтАЩt simply тАЬwild elephants in captivity.тАЭ Many were born in captivity or became separated from their herds and are now dependent on humans for food and care. For centuries, temples have housed elephants, often on large tracts of land that can provide more space than cramped private facilities. World Elephant Day ЁЯРШ Last night, at dinner in an Indian home in New Delhi, I encountered a Sri Lankan elephant on a plate from Paradise Road in Sri Lanka. A small image of one of the most powerful symbols of Sri Lanka. But the real elephant is not meant for a plate, a picture or simply to be a symbol. It belongs in the wild. And on World Elephant Day, perhaps that is what we should remember most тАУ to protect the space and environment they need, and to make room for these majestic, sentient beings with whom we are so blessed to share this planet. #WorldElephantDay #SriLanka

Mohamed Aziz, a 77-year-old bookseller, living in Rabat, Morocco, spends 6 to 8 hours a day reading books. Having read over 5000 books in French, Arabic, and English, he remains the oldest bookseller in Rabat, spending more than 43 years in the same location. When asked about leaving his books unattended outside, where they could potentially be stolen, he responded that "those who can't read don't steal books, and those who can, aren't thieves."

My wife and I traveled to Canc├║n, Mexico, in December 2008. One of the highlights we wanted to see was Chich├йn Itza, about a two-hour drive from the Canc├║n Hotel Zone via the toll road, or nearly twice as long if you took the local roads. We rented a car in the Hotel Zone and, armed with our very limited Spanish, somehow managed the drive to and from Chich├йn Itza without much trouble. On the return journey, however, things took a turn. As we approached Canc├║n, a severe thunderstorm rolled in. Visibility dropped to almost zero, and we lost our way. This was 2008 - GPS navigation wasn't something most travelers had at their fingertips. We pulled over and tried asking people for directions to the Hotel Zone. That's when a young boy, probably no older than 18 or 19, stopped in his Ford Taurus. I'm quite sure he didn't understand our broken Spanish - or whatever language we were trying to invent at that point - so he resorted to the universal language of hand gestures. He simply signaled for us to follow him. Then he took off. He drove that Ford Taurus like it was a sports car. I couldn't keep up with his youthful enthusiasm, especially in the pouring rain, and soon he disappeared ahead of us. Just as I thought we had lost him, I saw him parked by the roadside, waiting patiently for us to catch up. This happened several times. He would speed ahead, realize we'd fallen behind, pull over, and wait. Finally, when we were close enough to the Hotel Zone, he stopped one last time, pointed us in the right direction, gave us a friendly wave, and drove away. I've never forgotten that young man. Despite the language barrier, he understood exactly what we needed. What has stayed with me all these years is not just his kindness, but the way he balanced youthful exuberance with a quiet sense of responsibility. He could have simply pointed us in a direction and continued on his way. Instead, he chose to make sure two strangers reached their destination safely. I've been back to Mexico a couple of times since then, but eighteen years later, I still remember that young man in the Ford Taurus more vividly than many of the country's famous landmarks. News - India is going o renovate the Prambanan temple in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The Prambanan complex comprises 240 Hindu temples, making it one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia. I am not sure if only the Prambanan temples (240 of them) will be renovated or the rest of the temples in the Prambanan temple compound. Other temples in the Prambanan temple compound (Prambanan temple complex is within this compound) are Candi Sewu, the second-largest Buddhist temple complex in Indonesia after Borobudur, originally consisting of 249 temples. One of its most striking features is the pair of colossal Dvarapalas (temple gate guardians) that flank its entrance. Other notable temples in the area include Candi Bubrah, Candi Lumbung, and Candi Asu. Except for Asu, these monuments are at various stages of restoration under a collaboration between UNESCO and the Indonesian government. Candi Asu remains buried beneath volcanic deposits from Mount Merapi and is yet to be fully excavated. Pic 1: Prambanan temple complex, Pic 2: Candi Sewu Pic 3: Candi Bubrah 4. Candi Lumbung

Gopaldhara Gold Thor is an exceptional Darjeeling Second Flush Black Tea, handcrafted from rare AV2 clonal bushes grown at elevations between 5,500 and 7,000 feet in the Himalayan foothills. Renowned for its premium quality, this tea is made using only the finest hand-plucked leaves and golden-tipped buds selected from high-elevation sections of the estate. The tea undergoes a carefully controlled 30-hour oxidation process, allowing its flavors to develop naturally while maintaining remarkable smoothness and complexity. Expertly hand-rolled and hand-sorted, the whole leaves remain unbroken, ensuring a clean, refined cup free from bitterness or astringency. Gopaldhara Gold Thor offers a naturally sweet and fruity flavor profile with rich notes of honey, ripe fruits, jaggery, and the signature muscatel character that defines the finest Darjeeling teas. The infusion produces a bright, clear orange liquor with exceptional clarity and depth. As one of Gopaldhara Tea EstateтАЩs most limited and prized productions, Gold Thor reflects the craftsmanship and heritage of Darjeeling tea making. For the best experience, brew 2.5 grams of tea in water cooled to 80тАУ85┬░C for 4тАУ5 minutes. Avoid adding milk or sugar to fully appreciate its delicate aroma, layered flavors, and elegant finish. It can also be steeped multiple times. тАУ at Bairatisal, India

ЁЯМ┐ The bridge where the Universe clicked. Did you know this fragile suspension bridge at Kakrighat (near Almora, Uttarakhand) sits on one of the most spiritually charged riverbanks in India? Interesting facts: #DYK 1я╕ПтГг n 1890, Swami Vivekananda meditated under a Peepal tree right next to this bridge and achieved a profound realisation regarding the oneness of the cosmos. 2я╕ПтГг This exact bridge has been crossed by India's legendary mystics, including Sombari Baba and Neem Karoli Baba. 3я╕ПтГг Look down into the Kosi River below! A giant, naturally formed boulder sits in the water that looks exactly like a giant sitting frog. An absolute hidden gem along the Kumaon highway. Have you ever crossed it?
