Charles Scott Robinson was 30 when he heard his sentence.
In 1994 an Oklahoma jury found him guilty of six counts of child abuse.
Because the law didn’t allow life without parole, the jury recommended 5,000 years on each count.
District Judge Dan Owens then ordered the sentences to run one after another instead of at the same time, bringing the total to 30,000 years.
Under the rules, Robinson wouldn’t be eligible for parole until he was 108, and even if he got parole on every count he would still serve at least 78 years.
The judge said the point was to make sure Robinson spent the rest of his natural life in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
He is still locked up at Joseph Harp Correctional Center.
Guinness World Records lists the sentence as the longest ever given for multiple counts.
