Well said. Indian mayors have been stripped of their powers, reduced to ceremonial robes & welcoming VIPs at airports.
In Bengaluru, where mayor's post has been vacant since 2020, even those robes are gathering dust.
All Indian cities should have directly elected mayors with a full five-year tenure & meaningful executive powers. State govt's ad hoc approach to urban governance must end.
A daughter of Thiruvananthapuram, @nithyavraman, is the new Mayor of Los Angeles! And with @ZohranKMamdani in New York, America’s two biggest cities will be run by people of Indian origin!
I’m sure they will do a far better job than their counterparts back in India, who are reduced to powerlessness by a British-era system that disperses authority and budgets, leaving Mayors here without any real means to govern their cities effectively…
I just got stopped by these 2 vehicles because I questioned them for having used sirens to get their right of way through traffic in a busy road near Lingarajapuram flyover?
What is this VIP treatment for? When will these politicians understand that we Citizens voted them to power? @dpkBopanna @ndtv @nikhilchinapa @ShivAroor
So the update is that I got called to the RTO. Thankfully, the RTO KrIshnanda of Kasturi Nagar was a very decent, Honest officer. He asked me to just furnish a letter mentioning the incident & closed it.
But I'm thinking, why will a Minister get so offended if a Citizen questions him? Wouldn't he have gained brownie points if he simply said that he was in a hurry and his intention wasn't to inconvenience the general public?

Vote me to power. I will give you free rides in the public transport run by your tax money🤩
Thank you for voting me to power. Sorry someone needs to pay for the rides so those of you were paying earlier-pay more 😌
Oh I never cared coz I always had free rides as your servant☺️

KSRTC was once a matter of pride. Sad to see its condition today.
Buses in such condition, concerns over safety, and now a 23% fare hike?
Karnataka Govt, before charging passengers more, at least ensure they get proper service. People deserve better.

"18 months" ~ 3 years
The flyover to Baptist Hospital has moved Hebbal flyover congestion 800m ahead, to a bend in the road
The stretch on the ORR from near Manyata Tech Park to Hebbal is already decimated for the metro, and the tannery road route into the city barely has 2 driveable lanes
I'd love to comprehend how these decisions are made. Not sure how much thought goes into it
#Traffic alert, #Bengaluru!
Traffic flow on Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Road will be affected for 18 months from Nov 6 as BDA starts construction of a four-lane elevated corridor on Ballari Road. KSRTC/private buses and all goods vehicles are banned on the stretch.

Over the last few days I have sensed some really strong sentiments emerging around the jobs for Kannadigas campaign.
Personally, I don't think this is necessarily a company Vs Kannadiga issue. A large part of the problem could lie in the hiring dynamics within organisations. For instance, a manager from Andhra Pradesh may naturally gravitate towards hiring Telugu speaking candidates while a North Indian manager may prefer people from his own region or familiar networks. Over time this could have created teams dominated by people from outside Karnataka.
I think the frustration among locals stems from a feeling that they are being outnumbered in organisations in their own city & certainly not because they lack talent or capability.
Companies need to look closely at their own hiring data and introspect on internal recruitment practices & biases within senior management.
This is an issue that needs to be addressed by govt through policy and constructive dialogue with the corporate sector.
While I may not agree with all the methods adopted by KRV and other similar groups but their campaign has certainly brought an important issue into the spotlight. It is now up to the govt & pvt companies to take a closer look & address the underlying concerns.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike ‘activists’ storming IT offices in Bengaluru and demanding hiring data is a terrible look.
Who’s going to stop this nonsense?
Machaiah Kalengada retweeted
The manner in which pro-Kannada activists are entering offices in Bengaluru must be called out- this is an attempt to intimidate and bully companies based in the city.

Govt will do everything to discourage public transport, and increase sale of private vehicles.
Then, with traffic worsening, push flyovers and tunnel projects to fill contractors' (and their own) pockets.
It starts with intent.
Everything else (priority, budget etc) comes later.
If anyone chooses public transport in Bengaluru, punish them with fare hikes of up to 71% in Metro & 67% in BMTC buses.
Relocate bus shelters away from convenient locations, delay Metro projects & insist on end-to-end double-decker flyovers. Is this how Bengaluru plans to encourage public transport? @CMofKarnataka

BMTC has also instructed its crew not to halt buses on Manyata flyover.
Punish those who walk/ use public transport until they bring their own vehicles. @CMofKarnataka @krishnabgowda

Bengaluru currently has both the costliest metro rail system and the most expensive city bus service in India. As an embellishment, the roads are riddled with potholes, crammed with traffic and strewn with garbage #bmtc #NammaMetro @GBA_office

Dear Congress,
35% hike in BMTC fares, 25% in KSRTC fares, costlier milk, and all this just as lakhs of Kannadigas gear up to celebrate Deepavali with their families. Some festive gift this is!
Kannadigas will not forget this. They will return the favour in 2028, at polling booths.
And when that happens, don't blame the EVMs, cry foul over SIR, or go looking for another excuse!
Mohandas Pai is from Seshadripuram in Bangalore,he was born here, grew up, studied and worked in Bangalore all his life. He's created multiple jobs, invested in the economy and has contributed more to Karnataka than anyone else. To turn on him like this...is just unpardonable

Malleshwaram Road Restoration Corruption
A newly asphalted road in Malleshwaram collapsed within just one week, exposing the blatant misuse of public funds.
For years, citizens have endured cratered roads, non-existent footpaths, and official apathy while authorities ignore basic civic maintenance.BNP and local residents launched a Freedom Walk in Malleshwaram to demand accountability for missing BESCOM Road Restoration Charges (RRC).
