"It is her own soul that Canada risks today. Once that soul is pawned for any consideration, Canada must inevitably conform to the commercial, legal, financial, social, and ethical standards which will be imposed on her by the sheer admitted weight of the U.S."

The anglo influencer right's tendency to simp for Quebec separatists in recent days is something I find very jarring. We know that unfortunately the current conservative base in Canada rejects, for the most part, the history and ideals of Canada's founding...
Bro just won the Biggest Balls in Canada award. EU summit starts today.
Told Carney to Fβ Off.
Told the EU to Fβ Off some more.
All in 24 hours.

And there is a weird horseshoe they share with the newer anglo right led by the influencers, in that they have no real connection or time for their historical identity at all. It's still a very fragile friendship though - most anglos do not realize how different we have become.

The French seem to forget that they were allowed to maintain their French language and Catholic faith because the British Crown protected them after the Seven Yearsβ War. They should be more grateful.

What even are these titles we are trying to make up, "Canada's former unofficial first lady"?
Just say the former PM's wife instead of trying to force an Americanism, the Prime Minister is not head of state - the closest thing to a first lady would be the Queen consort.
Sophie GrΓ©goire Trudeau didn't see Justin Trudeau as a PM: 'I knew it was his job, but come on.'

Catholic intimacy rules were designed for a world where you courted for 6 months & got married at 22.
Applying βno kissingβ rules to a 27 year old in a 2 year relationship heading toward marriage is cruel and legalistic torture.

Today, I sent a letter to the CBC Ombudsman demanding an explanation and accountability for the use of taxpayer money to mislead, deceive and lie to Canadian citizens, including Members of Parliament, in attempts to trick them into participating in a fake documentary smearing the reputation of Canada's first prime minister.
I look forward to her response.

Former Radio-Canada journalist refers to The Crown as the βBritish Monarchyβ and celebrates Bloc leader Yves-FranΓ§ois Blanchet for his lack of basic Canadian civic knowledge.

The Bloc, here, with a sensible and respectful reaction to the nomination of Louise Arbour as Governor General. Bravo. We cannot expect them to salute the British Monarchy-it would go against their purpose as a Party- but here, they demonstrate that you can be in the opposition and be in synch with some of the party in power's decisions. It then gives even more credibility to the times when you categorically disagree.
When you oppose everything, systematically, it means nothing. You oppose just to oppose.
Well done.

Canada's next Governor General, Louise Arbour, is asked if she is a monarchist.
Q: "Are you a monarchist?"
A: "This term is unfortunately very often used in a pejorative way. What I can say is that I will accede to a function in which I will be the representative of the Crown, in a constitutional arrangement that I think has served Canada extremely well throughout our history, but even more in recent decades."

Massive collective yawn. This is an utterly predictable, boring, uninspiring, and repetitive appointment. Essentially another vertically and horizontally challenged female functionary who embodies all the intellectual and imaginative limitations and prejudices of Canada's liberal elite. But oh, what a perfect representative of the pretensions and mediocrities of our political-judicial class!
The criteria so far to be The King's representative in Canada for the Liberal party is that you have to be old, a woman, and have some sort of a peak in your public service career.
Even under Carney, it's not a serious or real job to them, but a reward you get in retirement.
