I was recently told that I need to be "liberated" from thinking that covid is still dangerous to my high risk family and worth masking for. I reflected on this, and realized it's the other way around.
Masking brings me many kinds of liberty I never had pre-pandemic... 1/6

It’s hard to believe we’ve overheated the planet so much we’ve changed the weather and it’s not the number one thing we are talking about

El-Sayed: "One of the more striking aspects of the pandemic is just how unwilling we’ve been to engage in the collective interventions that could mitigate it."
it may be worth recirculating today too that newly elected Michigan Sen. Abdul El-Sayed authored this 2022 article in The New Republic: "Long Covid Is Just Getting Started. We're Not Ready for It.”

I am stunned at the breathability test results for this Moldex Airwave N95.
I've been testing various masks to see how breathable they are using a testing machine, and the Airwave was so breathable I had to run the test again with another sample just to make sure the test results were real. It is massively more breathable than other good quality N95s I've tested.

Lower pressure drop scores mean it takes less suction to draw air through the mask. So lower scores are better.

When she returned
from her travels
she told me that at the airports
she was surprised
by how many masked faces
she saw there,
and when she asked why,
I explained
that some travelers understood
that airplanes
aren’t the only airborne thing.

Folks in northern Colorado, loads of measles exposures.
This child was super sick and in a lot of health care facilities.

“I’m starting to become concerned for this next generation.”
A teacher just watched a whole classroom of younger kids who “don’t seem to evolve in the same direction as everyone else.”
“It’s like the lights are on but nobody’s home.”
“They are looking through you.” “Staring off into space making random vocal noises.”
“Horribly ditzy.” No attention span. “These kids aren’t special ed either.”
She then defaulted to the usual answers: bad parenting, tablets 2” from their faces, TV until bed, no family dinners.
What if that is just NOT it?
29- 35% of kids with Long Covid show measurable weaknesses in sustained and divided attention on testing.
Higher rates of parent reported inattention and cognitive regulation problems.
The vacant stare, the random vocalizations, the sense that the room isn’t functioning the same way it used to. It matches what research studies have been documenting for years.
The screens didn’t empty the minds of the classroom.
All of the Covid infections did.

Wow. $7 billion.
When I first coined “forever chemicals” I wrote the piece because I couldn’t believe this toxic class of chemicals that are in - and around - all of us were somehow flying under the radar of the public’s consciousness. I felt the overly technical name, “per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances”, an impenetrable name created by the industry, was part of the problem.

biden almost immediately abandoned us to spread covid forever & is probably the biggest reason why kids are now dropping dead of cardiac arrest in p.e. class

I’m seeing people saying things like ‘young people have got their future back!’.
It’s a fantastic, hopeful thing that people have voted against Trump but we are still in the biggest Crisis humanity has ever faced and we are very very late.
There is no sign than the Democrats or the public yet understand the magnitude of this threat.
The Democrats should declare unprecedented global emergency. They won’t.

COVID indicators flatten out.
RSV remains rare.

🚨 BREAKING: MY PAC IS PREPARED TO NEGOTIATE.
Following the elections, I’ve appointed myself America’s newest and least influential political lobbyist.
My 18-point legislative agenda includes Long COVID, clean air, constitutional rights, ending wars, restoring science, overturning Citizens United, and apparently fixing the entire country before Christmas.
Some have suggested my demands are unreasonable.
I hear you. I understand the importance of bipartisanship. And unlike certain people in Washington, I am prepared to make concessions.
Extraordinary concessions.
In fact, what I’m about to offer may be the most generous bipartisan compromise package in American history.
Here are my terms: 🧵

Outstanding thread as always from @ZdenekVrozina.
I see this in people almost every day now. Fundamentally, it's why I mask.

PMC COVlD Update (U.S.)
Nov 2, 2026
Transmission typically falls in October, but not this year. We're seeing the highest levels for this time of year relative to any prior year since pandemic onset. Let that sink in.
Presently, 47 states and territories have known outbreaks. The PMC model estimates that >1 million Americans are getting infected each day, meeting our criteria for characterizing transmission as a "surge." We estimate that 1 in 43 Americans are actively infectious, varing considerably be region.

On Bluesky, I only allow followers to reply to posts because too many of their users hold the prejudice that the Texas COVlD surge is because it's a "red state."
Policy over.

I have to do more hospital stuff soon.
Much anxiety.
A lot of anxiety comes from running a gauntlet of unmasked healthcare workers.
I am sad, because they are killing themselves.
And I am angry, because they might kill me.
Today I ordered 250 double sided business cards:

Listen to this woman’s pain.
I am not gloating. She says she is a Conservative.
Her home is flooded, and she says she’s ruined.
This really makes me want to cry because climate change has been clear for the last 40 years. It should never have become a politically divisive issue. It’s literally a matter of life and death.
The planet is hotter now than it’s been in over 100,000 years, carbon dioxide levels are higher now than in millions of years. A heating planet means greater rainfall intensity. And it’s only going to get worse.
Conservative politicians have denied its reality, the left haven’t been much better at actually facing and dealing with it, and now the consequences are hitting us all.
All of us are going to lose a lot. It’s devastating.
We need to come together, regardless of politics, left and right, and stop those people who exist to prop up the fossil fuel industry, and get lobbying and money out of politics.
We need to stop billionaires owning and controlling media.
We are very very late now.
We need to educate each other and wake up because everything is at risk: youtu.be/2Jq23mSDh9U?is=-pxC…
