‘Researchers are calling for climate change to be declared a global health emergency to enable a coordinated global response.’
This is a no-brainer, and should have happened YEARS ago.

On the “prepare 3 days worth of rations, in case of emergency” — I keep seeing people ask “what they know” — but it’s not some secret, these threats or a combination of them have all been hurtling towards us:
FOOD AND CLIMATE
• El Niño crop failures, worsened by fertiliser shortages and storms
• Extreme heat and flooding hitting already fragile food systems
WAR
• Trump loses the midterms badly, then attacks Iran again, risking nuclear war
• Wider escalation involving Russia or China
TECHNOLOGY
• An AI-engineered bioweapon
• AI-enabled attacks on national infrastructure
• AI job loss on a massive scale, with no plan for unemployment, leading to mass social conflict
DISEASE
• Pneumonic plague that appeared in Russia, in the news for a day, then dropped
• Antimicrobial resistance
• Weakened pandemic response as aid budgets are cut
INSTITUTIONS AND ECONOMY
• Collapse of the UN and the humanitarian system, leading to mass refugee flows and global instability
• Another massive and worse sovereign debt or financial crisis

"We need to tax the rich to pay for it." No. The Treasury spends first, and tax destroys money. Tax the super-wealthy to shrink their power and their grip on housing and land.

Excellent insights by @SteveKeenEcon on the systemic flaws behind the current crisis in France and across Europe.
His four "heretical" conclusions to end Europe's decline are:
1️⃣ Abolish the Euro and return to national currencies.
2️⃣ Run government deficits to create fiat money.
3️⃣ Use those deficits to fully fund public education and infrastructure.
4️⃣ Restrict private debt—the true trigger of economic collapse.

The thing about Google clearing a forest in Finland without permits is that they decided that whatever fine they might face is worth it. It doesn’t cost them as much as not getting the land cleared.
Because like ALL things, if the punishment is a fine, it isn’t really illegal for rich people.

Alarming. A bird flu outbreak in a Utah mink farm threatens to spread to humans and spark a far deadlier pandemic than Covid, experts warn. But officials appear to be doing nothing about it, prioritizing the health of the fur trade over people.

A young humpback whale, fatally injured by a krill trawler, is thrown away like trash.
An eminent marine biologist, Leonid Pshenichnov, a Ukrainian known for his kindness, who devoted his life to the research and protection of krill and marine life in the Antarctic, was illegally jailed for up to 20 years by Putin, because he tried to protect these whales with marine protected areas.
Dr Pshenichnov is 71 and seriously unwell. He will die in prison—and we must understand the implications of unlawfully jailing an innocent scientist whose only desire was to protect a vitally important marine ecosystem.
Trump's pal Putin is ruthless and merciless. Make no mistake:
Putin's crimes and future plans are far-reaching and Trump backing him will enable even worse genocidal, lawless behavior and make this world a more dangerous place for all.

It's hard to believe that some experts aren't aware that El Niños have a step-change (ratchet) effect on global climate.
El Niño warming is categorically not temporary.
It is irreversible, permanent, forever.
El Niño is the engine that heats up the planet in apocalyptic surges.
This might be the single most important thing to understand about our situation.
For clarity, I added the steps to the graph...

INDONESIA IS BURNING DOWN THE OLDEST RAINFOREST ON EARTH ON PURPOSE
FOR ”BIOFUEL - PALMOIL” AND AI CENTERS:
🛑HERE IS THE
BITTER TRUTH🛑
Indonesia has active government-backed plans for biofuel plantations and large-scale AI data centers.
Biofuel plantations
Indonesia is expanding feedstock production to support higher biofuel blends and reduce fuel imports.
•Biodiesel (palm oil): Mandatory blend raised to B50 in 2026, with plans for B60 and longer-term ambitions toward B100. This drives higher CPO demand; some projections indicate millions of additional hectares of palm oil may be needed over time (e.g., ~5+ million ha estimates linked to B50 by the late 2030s). Expansion includes new plantings, productivity improvements, and projects such as a biodiesel complex planned by state firm Agrinas in Papua. Preference is for degraded land to limit deforestation.
•Bioethanol (mainly sugarcane, plus cassava/corn): Push for E20 (20% blend) with progress targeted around 2028 and higher blends (toward E50) longer-term. Government preparing up to ~2 million hectares of land (major focus on ~1 million ha of sugarcane) across Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Papua, and elsewhere, preferably on degraded land. Plans also include 30–50 new ethanol plants; Papua discussed as a potential bioenergy hub.
AI centers / AI-ready data centers
Indonesia has a large pipeline of AI-focused data centers, with multi-billion-dollar investment interest and projects already advancing.
•Operational capacity is in the hundreds of MW (~580–900 MW range); additional pipeline of ~1.3 GW+ with investor interest of roughly US$15–20 billion. Under-construction and planned capacity is higher still.
•Key projects:
◦Zankore by Indosat (with NVIDIA and partners): Targeting up to 1 GW “AI Factory” in Batang, Central Java (claimed among the largest in SE Asia); initial phases advancing, broader build-out over ~3 years.
◦BDx AI campus (CGK4) in Jatiluhur, Purwakarta: 640 MW potential; groundbreaking September 2026, first phase (~120 MW) targeted for early 2027.
◦Firmus Technologies (NVIDIA-backed): 360 MW AI factory on Batam.
◦Others: Digital Edge campus in Bekasi (scalable toward 1 GW, multi-billion investment), DayOne (~450 MW Batam), CoreWeave, NeutraDC, DCI, and more. NVIDIA linked to significant Batam interest (including multi-billion-dollar reports) and related infrastructure.
Main hubs are Greater Jakarta and Batam. The government supports these for digital economy and AI growth; power, water, and grid capacity are key practical constraints.
Both areas are strategic priorities: biofuels for energy self-sufficiency and AI infrastructure for digital capacity.

We spend an enormous amount of time talking about the very worst of us, so let's remember some of the best.
This is Dr Karmele Llano Sanchez, a Spanish veterinarian rescuing orangutans from the wildfires in West Kalimantan.
No AC or mod cons for wildlife rescuers and veterinarians working in the most challenging conditions in the field, often facing real danger with great courage.
Eight orangutans have recently been treated and released, but the suffering witnessed has taken its toll on her team.
Most people don't even know her name—she couldn't care less about that—but I do. People like her are true heroes, and we should know who they are.

As part of our global vision for an ecological sustainable population, SPA supports foreign aid directed toward offering women & couples access to the family planning services & contraception they need to better facilitate their fertility choices.
Roughly 250 million women globally (mostly in low-income nations) who want to avoid pregnancy do not have access to modern methods of family planning.
Globally there are around 121 million unplanned pregnancies every year.
This is about offering people a choice & empowering them... not coercion.
Access to family planning & contraception is a powerful force for positive change with countless downstream benefits for both people & planet.
