Whistleblowers make Australia a better place, they are vital parts of our systems of accountability, transparency & integrity. And if we lock up whistleblowers, we send a chilling message to all Australians. My comments to @CroweDM smh.com.au/politics/federal/…

Last night, I joined the national whistleblower summit to mourn and celebrate the life of my friend and mentor, Dan Ellsberg.
Midway through the four-hour event, the organization gave away a series of awards in recognition of whistleblowers who exemplify the principles of Dan and those who came before him.
The Pillar Award, presented by the Government Accountability Project, is the highest honor bestowed on a whistleblower.
I was stunned when they announced I was the winner of this year's award. My journey has been mired in fake controversy and targeted smears.
But that's true of all the previous winners, as well, I learned.
The kindness and warmth I've found with other whistleblowers gives me hope that I'll come out the other side of this.
A special thanks to Jackie Garrick, Sherron Watkins, Jane and Victoria Turner, the National Whistleblower Center, Whistleblowers of America, and the Whistleblower Summit.

Yesterday, Sarbanes-Oxley turned 21 🍾🎂
I was honored to have a front row seat working with Senator Sarbanes on this bill. If Sarbanes-Oxley meets its full potential, trust in our markets can grow — and that benefits investors and issuers alike.

Today in @HouseofCommons on behalf of @ElectoralCommUK @OwenThompson highlighted that the UK's “political finance system is vulnerable to unlawful influence both from donations overseas and in the UK” and that parties should be required to know where a donor's money comes from.

ALT Screenshot of Vulture news story, quoting Samuel L. Jackson: I’m 74. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be around here raising hell or doing what I’m doing. But people need to start understanding that the economic gap is crazy. I pay an enormous amount of taxes, and it’s fine because I know I should. But why can’t we get billionaires to pay their fucking taxes? If those motherfuckers paid their taxes we’d solve a whole bunch of shit. And they would still be richer than every motherfucker walking around them.

Thank you Isabella! But the real heroes are the whistleblowers who actually spoke out, risking (sometimes losing) everything to reveal corrupt behavior. It was a privilege to spend time with them, and to tell their stories.

In addition to forensic audits, #whistleblowers can expose state pension wrongdoing. Rhode Island's False Claims Act empowers whistleblowers to launch a lawsuit on the state's behalf where state funds (e.g., state pension $$) have been obtained by fraud.
There’s a boatload of money to be recovered from Wall Street for past state pension wrongdoing alone. To make Rhode Islanders richer—go after it.
