If they dared, biohacking bros who seek to defy aging could try a simple, time-tested method: castration.
Removing the testicles extends male life span across many mammalian species, including humans. But a research team exploring this effect has now found the surgical procedure doesn’t have to be performed early in life to boost longevity, as scientists had assumed.
In a new preprint, the group reports that neutering older male mice lengthens their lives by more than 30%, upending prevailing ideas of how the testes influence aging.

This is so sad. I’m 54 years old and started reading Salon when I was in college. It was early proof that you could do great journalism on the web and (along with suck.com) made me think maybe I could make a living writing on the internet

I’ve come to think @elonmusk ended up doing Dems and progressives a huge favor by turning this place into a fetid swamp of feral right wing freaks where the most prominent members of their coalition post like cartoon movie villains and think it makes them look cool.

the closest we have to a statement is...this
So the 41 datacenter moratoria across the country are, I predict, going to go 41-0. In nearly every case it's about 67-80% opposing datacenters. True in California, Ohio, everywhere. Read all the results here:

I published this in March and think it’s even more true today: the most visible leaders in tech are poorly positioned to reset tech’s reputation beyond our industry. This is a *huge* opportunity for emerging talent without all that baggage. I can’t wait to see who rises to the occasion (and would love to help).

The country debates democracy and AI and Elon Musk spends 9 figures and this ad & @sarahkliff's Kansas medical billing story probably the highest impact pieces of media of the cycle

I'm fascinated by a weird ad for Muse @milkkarten spotted on Instgram, claiming it could help you see who unfollowed you. Which, it can, but that's a feature Instagram has repeatedly said it doesn't want users to have. (Meta has taken down the ad).
A curious tension here: AI agents and social media aren't necessarily playing nice. There's things Muse can do for users that is at the detriment to the health of the social platforms. So what balance does Meta strike to make sure the new shiny thing isn't cannibalizing the old profitable thing?

Apparently a lot of other people were busy so I got to go on @KQEDForum today and talk about AI, which was fun

Once again. The idea that AI is only improving rapidly in verifiable domains like math is looking suspect.

they're frustrated that they have a lot of money but struggle to get a table at the restaurants popular among the tech/finance set in sf/ny. it's why their ideas always focus on problems that patrons supposedly have with reservations, rather than problems restaurants have
