Just rewatched Vision Quest. The soundtrack is still a time machine, but Matthew Modine is why it lasts.
He plays Louden Swain without the usual 80s teen-movie polish: no easy swagger, no cartoon antagonist, no victory that solves the person. It’s a performance of hunger & self-imposed pressure. The film understands that the real quest isn’t the match…it’s everything that happens while you’re trying to get there.
