You cannot fire scientists, halt ongoing research and clinical trials, drive away the next generation and then declare a “golden age” of American science. These cannot fundamentally coexist.
As we head into the elections here is a breakdown breakdown of the damage done to the U.S. scientific ecosystem so far:
Defense research labs lost roughly 14% of their staff. The Pentagon itself warned of “potentially grave consequences for the future of national defense.”
NIH staffing fell by 1/5. More than 2,000 biomedical research grants were delayed or canceled, affecting work on cancer, Alzheimer’s and other major diseases affecting the health of American public.
HHS announced a wind-down of mRNA vaccine development at BARDA, affecting 22 projects worth nearly $500 million through cancellations, cuts and restructuring and halting new mRNA projects under the program.
The National Science Foundation lost roughly 1/3 of its staff and withheld more than $1 billion in funding.
The Energy Department lost more than 1,000 scientists and technical staff. Grant awards from its two major science offices fell by more than $500 million during the administration’s first year.
NASA lost 20% of its employees with Ph.Ds.
Foreign Ph.D. applications at leading universities fell 21%. Schools reduced admissions as funding uncertainty made it harder to support future scientists and removing a pathway for sustaining scientific excellence globally.
Meanwhile, a proposed rule would give political appointees greater control over who receives research funding, screening applications for supposedly “anti-American values.”
Thankfully Congress rejected the massive proposed budget cuts and courts forced funding restorations. But neither can replace the time and investment already made. We can’t just simply flip the switch back on.
And while the federal government can still spend roughly $200 billion on research - we continue to witness the dismantling of the capacity to turn funding into discovery.
And make no mistake - other countries are happy to step in - including China - who are recruiting the talent we are losing.
The treatments we will need in 20 years depend on the research we conduct today. So do our security, our prosperity and our ability to maintain our lead globally.
Vote tomorrow because science depends on it.

“This is a picture of Tehran. For you uneducated, untraveled, never-served, warhawks licking your chops at the thought of bombing it. It's not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets. Regular working class people with dreams. You're sick to want war”

All fact checked and true. We need to take these threats seriously.
~Hegseth has fired the three-star general in charge of strategic planning for the war.
~Air defense systems have been installed at Mar-a-Lago
~Every major U.S. military base has been ordered to become self-sufficient for 90 days with no external electricity, fuel or supplies.
Meanwhile, Chris Murphy has warned that the Traitor-in-Chief is about to commit an illegal, insane act of war that will lead to devastating escalation and the destruction of the rule of law, not to mention the targeting of civilians.
50 million having voted early.
Once again, We the People need to take these threats seriously.

Listen to what Senator Chris Murphy had to say... shortly before suffering a stroke. Wishing the Senator a speedy recovery

BREAKING: US Senator Chris Murphy hospitalized following a stroke, per his office.
This comes just days after being briefed on highly classified military planning on Iran to restart the war after the midterms, where he called Trump's plan "insane."
"I will just say this: their plan is insane. It will lead to devastating escalation and the likely destruction of our commitment to the rule of law," he said four days ago.

The only thing I'd say about Haley Stevens, who I knew pretty well in Congress, is that her actions have been neither principled nor opportunistic, just strange. I'd look more to experts in psychology than politics to explain them.
But there are more important issues here. 1/

Women are dying preventable deaths because of anti-abortion laws. It's what happened in the 1960s before Roe v. Wade passed in 1973. Women need access to lifesaving healthcare no matter what state we live in.

Jon Husted voted once to hide the Epstein files, 9 times to cut your health care, and 14 times to continue the Iran War.
You only get one chance to vote him out, don't miss it.

Jon Husted had 14 opportunities to lower costs for Ohioans by ending this costly war in Iran but he voted against it every single time.

They belong to the public.
Our lands. Our vote.

Who was it that started a reckless war in the Middle East & closed the Strait of Hormuz—pushing gas prices through the roof?
@JDVance, your party controls the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court. It’s not Democrats who created this mess. It’s you.

A governor’s only priority should be making life better for Ohioans. That’s why I sold all of my individual stocks over 6 months ago so that no Ohioan would ever have to worry about where my priorities lie.
Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy has refused to sell his holdings in data centers and other industries Ohio’s governor will be responsible for regulating. Ramaswamy is only out for himself. The longer he refuses to put Ohioans before his own stock portfolio, the clearer that becomes.

I don’t think people understand that global warming doesn’t mean “no cold weather ever.” It means a warming planet destabilizes weather patterns, causing more extreme weather. This has been explained for decades and people still don’t get it.
