Discord is finally ditching Electron, and its new Windows 11 client written in Rust is already showing some promising RAM usage! The company is rebuilding its entire desktop client in Rust, using GPUI for the interface. Discord said it's not using Tauri. Discord has even shared an early screenshot of the new app, codenamed Discord Phoenix, showing just 290.2MB of RAM usage! For comparison, the current Electron-based Discord regularly uses 1–2GB of RAM on my PC, even when idle, and the company has admitted that some users can hit 4GB. Discord has been using Rust since 2018 for backend infra, but getting the entire client onto it was the "holy grail." I'm particularly interested in this because Windows 11 has too many popular apps carrying their own browser engines, eating RAM while doing relatively simple things.

Deze prullenbak is al 3 dagen niet geleegd. Misschien langer. Eigenlijk best schandalig. Alles is hier vies. #stopdetroep

Look at the contrast: Binance loses billions: - Coinbase manually blocks addresses - Tether and Circle freeze billions in 60 minutes - Ripple and World Liberty coordinate in group chats - Executives hug it out on X A normal user loses $50k to an approval scam: - "Blockchain transactions are irreversible, anon" - "Code is law" - "Have you considered reading the contract bytecode?" - Zero help from stablecoin issuers Decentralization for the peasants, emergency bailouts and centralized freezes for the tier-1 cartel. There are two crypto industries, and you’re not in the protected one.
Our team is doing everything we can to support in the current situation, including blocking sends to compromised wallets. We've also reached out to Binance to offer our help. Moments like this call for the industry to work together. Openly sharing any useful information and helping to protect customers should come first, regardless of which platform they use. If you can do anything to help, please do! Crypto has been through many tough times, and has always come out stronger on the other side. This won’t be any different.

Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified. The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete. As an immediate precaution, Binance has: - temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed; - revoked the affected address authorisation; - engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice. Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions. binance.com/en/support/annou…

Mijn draai over autoluw was precies hierom. Idealisme zonder toetsing realiteit is dogma.

A useful reminder amidst the Microsoft announcement
Note from a laid off Cisco Manager to all, valid life lessons: "Just a quick 7 min Webex and a very long career is over. Even after serving my entire career, running a very large team, building software, minting $100+ Million in YOY revenue. Stuck with legacy technology knowledge no one wants in other companies with age that's discriminated in tech companies. I am feeling like the biggest fool now and learned loyalty never pays. Hard Lessons- Self serve first. Corporate companies are not your friend. They are there to make money even if US citizens suffer. Cheap Indian 'engineer' will one day take your job anyway. Keep yourself relevant by learning market-relevant technologies. In today's time, stick to open-source technologies. Do not work on proprietary technologies. In case you are stuck, have an exit plan. Do not be lured by false future promises. Stick to what can be compensated in the present. No one knows the future, not even your boss or his boss. You will be taken advantage of if you allow that to happen. Fight for your rights diplomatically if your personal situation allows else have an exit plan ready. Do not stay for more than 2 years in a place unless you see strong future growth Maintain a work-life balance. I regret this as time lost will never come back. Try getting a side income, you never know when your side hustle will turn out to be a life saver. Save as much as you can and invest wisely."
