It's this common mindset why I have little optimism in e.g. US protests to go anywhere. There is this idea by Americans to 'not make trouble' where trouble is a bother. But some conflict is good! In relationships and in life it's where real growth and change happens.

This individualistic "not my problem" philosophy is a problem anywhere, but it's symbolic of societies where ppl have been completely disconnected from community and one another. The US and its hyper-individualism is the paragon of this mindset.
