The stereotype of the black worker in the Confederacy is that of someone doing heavy, unskilled manual labor. However, historical analysis shows that view to be inaccurate, as they engaged in skilled and specialized labor as well. | @WanjiruNjoya

🎯Yes, the decline in the number of America’s community banks was bureaucratically engineered.
We need more community banks, not fewer.
Before the 2008 financial crisis: New banks were frequently approved with $5–12 million (sometimes as low as $7–10 million).
After the Great Financial Crisis and Dodd-Frank: Regulators roughly doubled typical requirements (to around $20 million or more). Analyses put average or median post-crisis figures in the $25–32 million range.
Throughout the past decade, industry advisers and regulators have consistently treated roughly $20 million as the practical floor for most community banks, with many proposals required to raise more (often $25–50 million depending on size, market, and risk).
There has been no general reduction in this expectation.
Every previous wave of consolidation has been met with de novo bank creation. Community banks have always “disappeared” but new ones have always been formed to take their place.
The dearth of community banks is not organic. It is bureaucratically engineered.
From a Misesian and Rothbardian perspective, can the absence of a unified and centralized state, create greater space for political pluralism, institutional competition, and constraints on state power? Kurdistan might provide some answers. | Soleyman Abdi

If anyone should be able to understand that statism is no substitute for sound economics, it would be an economist. Many of them—and especially those at elite universities—shill for inflation and unbridled state power. | Finn Andreen

New paper with Matt Higgins, Anita McGahan, and Rob Wuebker: Stakeholder theory asks who is in, who is out, and who gets what. We use the Coase theorem to build a single, transaction-level rule that connects those questions. 1/

The Atlantic is worried retirees aren't spending their savings fast enough.
so people who saved for 40 years are now a threat to the economy. ok lol
Anderson at @mises nails it: real savings are what capital is built from. Keynesians just want the merry-go-round spinning.

I'm very honored - and surprised - to receive the Koether Award for my Entrepreneurship and Evolutionary Economics. 🙏
In this week's Friday Philosophy, Dr. David Gordon reviews The Meaning of Socialism by Michael Luntley. While acknowledging that Luntley has some good insights, overall, he find the work lacking a full understanding of socialism.
