For all that Lula’s victory is being read as a defeat for Trumpism (which it is, in an important sense), interesting that Trump seems to genuinely like the guy.

Don’t be mislead by @jonfiner and @PhilGordonDC. They’re both seasoned sanctions practitioners. They know full well that the economic and financial warfare they’re advocating against Israel won’t stop at the Green Line. It will hit banks, businesses and all Israelis inside Israel itself.
Their mission is clear: coerce Israelis into accepting a Palestinian state—even if it is highly likely it will be controlled by Hamas, riddled with corruption, and posing a mortal threat to Israel’s security. They have learned nothing from October 7 and the failed territorial withdrawals of the past.
It isn't "our hemisphere" though, we have our country and the state claims the hemisphere and world as its own.

Excited to share that Money Mischief and Fiscal Folly, my new book with my colleague Alex Salter, is available for pre-order!
Why did experts miss the 2021 inflation surge? We explain what went wrong—and make the case for monetary rules and a stable dollar.
Out April 13!
I think I’ve only really enjoyed one Sorkin film and it was “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” as someone with sympathies to the anti-Vietnam movements
West Wing is enjoyable in the “turn my brain off, politics doesn’t actually work like this” way
Best thing ever written on Sorkin is the essay in @herandrews' Boomers

American conservatives are constantly bemoaning the decline of aesthetic standards and calling for a return to classical Roman architecture, but are now forced to defend the Cheesecake Factory. A constant tension between the Brooks Brothers patrician and the Kid Rock populist.
Dashing across 40 gates with a duffel bag full of books, clothes, and shoes and a backpack to catch a flight is quite the way to break in a new pair of boots
