Looking forward to rolling up my sleeves as CA's first Surgeon General. Thank you @GavinNewsom for your bold vision for health for all Californians. #preventscreenandheal!

Couldn’t agree more. I’m hearing more and more of these poorly thought-through practices that claim to be ‘trauma-informed’. We must continue teaching about the complexities of theses issues. And honor each individual as unique.
Scoring on an individual scale is completely flawed and has no place in our systematic approaches and interactions with our young people.
Why just focus on ACE's when the truama conversation is broader and much more complex?
We must heed these warnings.

Oh, my heart. She has left us such a legacy with her beautiful talent & words. One of my favorites from 'Heavy': "but how you carry it - books, bricks, grief - it’s all in the way you embrace it, balance it, carry it." Rest well, #MaryOliver.
I stand with the #LAUSDteachersstrike! I've been in two strikes with the @CTULocal1 - I will never forget how much my feet hurt, or how much tea I drank to *try* to get my voice back. I was chanting in my sleep. Stay strong - solidarity!

Good afternoon, friends.
Why is it that we respond to children who are upset with more yelling? Would that ever make a child, or a person of any age, have a positive mood change?
How do we work towards retraining our own teacher brains to respond with gentleness?

I LOVE this mindset shift from @britthawthorne_ - I am a recovering praise manipulator and this graphic gives me so much to sit in and consider when empowering our students to make independent decisions and not constantly be controlled by a teacher.
You couldn't pay me double my salary to vote for a Daley in Chicago. This isn't my first rodeo. #realtalk
Chicago mayoral hopeful Bill Daley has an idea he believes will change the way the city thinks about public education: merge the city’s K-12 and community college systems. ow.ly/Yt1Y30neALK
