IS TAKING SHAPE
Australia is moving closer to a financial system where bonds, investment funds and loans can be traded and settled using blockchain technology.
Redbelly Network has submitted recommendations to the Reserve Bank of Australia following its involvement in Project Acacia, an initiative exploring how tokenized financial markets could operate.
The project tested real financial use cases involving bonds, managed funds and lending products.
Redbelly’s proposals focus on four important areas:
24/7 settlement: Allowing financial transactions to settle outside traditional banking hours.
Interoperability: Connecting blockchain networks with Australia’s existing financial infrastructure.
Stablecoin access: Exploring how regulated digital money could support settlement.
Tokenized central bank reserves: Examining how central bank money could eventually support transactions involving tokenized assets.
There’s also an important connection to the XRP Ledger.
A separate Project Acacia pilot involving Zerocap tested government bond transactions using the XRPL and RLUSD.
That doesn’t mean Australia has selected Redbelly or the XRPL as its future financial infrastructure. These remain separate initiatives, and successful pilots don’t guarantee commercial adoption.
What makes this development encouraging is the bigger picture.
Australia isn’t simply discussing tokenization anymore. Financial institutions are testing how it could work with real financial products and existing payment systems.
For networks such as Redbelly and the XRPL, that creates opportunities to demonstrate their value in institutional finance.
The foundations for Australia’s tokenized financial future are being explored today.
