A United Nations title should not place anyone above scrutiny. Yet that is precisely what appears to have happened during Francesca Albanese's visit to Ireland.
Despite international condemnation, calls for resignation from European governments and demands for a UN investigation, Albanese was welcomed by Irish political representatives without question.
She dismissed documented antisemitism against Irish Jews on national radio, then appeared before an Oireachtas committee making a series of outrageous, unsubstantiated allegations.
Not one demand for evidence. Not one challenge to her most shocking claims.
Instead, she got praise, admiration and smiling photographs.
Since when did an Oireachtas committee become a place where extraordinary allegations are applauded rather than examined?
Our elected representatives have a duty to exercise independent judgement, ask difficult questions and demand evidence for serious allegations. That responsibility should never be set aside, regardless of who is speaking.

"We cannot slow things down".... the chilling and ignorant words of Taoiseach Micheal Martin yesterday when challenged by Aontú about the 60,000 student visas and 40,000 non-EU work permits his government hands out each year, when just over 30,000 new homes are being built. Peadar Toibin asked him to "join the dots" between housing supply & demand.
We have been completely failed by CSO, think tanks like ESRI and our mainstream media which don't provide vital information on demographics. So Micheal Martin is cosseted in his beliefs - the economy is booming, there's record employment, a grand Excheque surplus, so why would he want to "slow things down".

This is the correct approach. The only reason this series was commissioned is so that the demographic replacement of the Irish people which has been deliberately engineered by the Irish establishment can be marketed as inevitable to the boomer RTÉ demographic. It is an inoculation so that they have a list of soundbites such as "sure, who will pay our pensions?" to regurgitate to their homeless grandchildren around the Christmas table.
Not watching the Miriam O’Callaghan-fronted 2-part documentary on our declining birth rate because RTE has failed to report the declining native population (in fairness, because neither the Central Statistics Office nor think tanks have publicised the decline, and RTE doesn’t really have the capacity to do the research and crunch the numbers itself). But if RTE News doesn’t know what’s going on with the Irish native population generally, fairly safe to say one of its veteran presenters is clueless also on demographics.
It is worth noting that the 2-part documentary is produced for RTE by an Independent production company, with co-funding from Research Ireland (taxpayer). Also worth saying that whatever the production company is paying Miriam to present is ON TOP OF what RTE is paying her, probably around €20,000. So Miriam may come very close to equalling her husband’s pay in 2026; it must be uncomfortable to have been the big earner for most of your marriage but to be leapfrogged by your husband in 2025.
