Because money talks really loudly.
Their friends and family are in Indy, and they are young enough to handle a rebuild.
Looking at the 2027 Free Agents list today, two players I’d want to target are:
DT Adetomiwa Adebawore
WR Josh Downs
Not even being cheeky. When I look at ages and potential, those are two that look the most promising. Colts would be wise to retain them.
Other Free Agents that fit the profile of being young and ascending, I think the new GM looks at:
EDGE Tuli Tuipulotu
EDGE YaYa Diaby
EDGE Byron Young
S Brian Branch
DT Kobie Turner
DT Moro Ojomo
CB DJ Turner II
Comparable trades to Deforest Buckner:
Calais Campbell (33 years old, final year): Jaguars receive 5th round pick. Closest comp.
Damon Harrison (29, 2 years): Giants receive 5th.
Leonard Williams (29, final year): Giants receive 2nd + 5th, absorbed $10M of remaining contract.
This should say:
Sorry for everything @DeForestBuckner 💙
I know that this is a very emotional day for many Colts’ fans, but this should also be the most hopeful you’ve been about the franchise’s long-term success in several years.
They have been in QB + GM purgatory for a decade, constantly mortgaging the future for mediocre results.
Steichen is gone.
They’re probably all gone.
Keeping the staff is just to create some stability to finish out this damned season.
2027 will basically be an expansion team.
Replying to @MyColtsAccount
How do they evaluate the staff like this moving forward unless their minds are already made up lmao
I have always wanted to see an NFL team do this. Happens all of the time in MLB or NBA, where you dump as many expiring contracts as you can. Rarely happens in the NFL.
Unfortunate that it has to be the team that I cheer for, but they need a COMPLETE reset.
Based on what I can find, Quenton Nelson received the largest trade compensation for any veteran Guard who was on their 2nd+ contract in the history of the NFL.
The next closest would likely be Logan Mankins for a 4th round pick + TE Tim Wright.
I know Colts fans think they just traded the greatest Guard of all time for a ham 🥪, but he’s 30, a pending FA, and probably sick of this organization.
To keep Quenton Nelson with the franchise tag, it would cost $30M+. That is absurd for a rebuilding team.
Fans need to stop saying “Colts would have received a 3rd round compensatory pick for Quenton Nelson”.
The Colts are rebuilding, with an absurd amount of cap space, and no 1st.
You don’t think the new GM is going to sign a couple expensive FAs that would negate the comp picks?
Fans don’t get to yell “FIRE SALE!” and then complain about the returns.
Colts are trading from a position of weakness, with a deadline approaching. You accrue as many assets as you can, and prepare for a rebuild.
What a moron. 🤦♂️
#Colts QB Anthony Richardson Sr. says his marijuana charge is an ongoing legal matter and barely commented on it.
Does he regret the incident?
“I enjoy life. I don’t really regret a lot of things I do. I appreciate my life. I appreciate God waking me up every morning. …”
Here’s the thing: We all knew this was coming. The Vikings were going to blitz Daniel Jones until he proved he could overcome it.
The Colts appeared to have nothing prepared for this. I don’t believe they threw one screen in the 1st half. Protection adjustments were awful.
Daniel Jones GWD opportunities:
KC 4Q: 7 plays, 31 yards. Punt
KC OT: 5 plays, 45 yards. FG to tie
TEN 4Q: 5 plays, 8 yards. Downs
TEN 4Q: 6 plays, 19 yards. Downs
MIN 4Q: 2 plays, 13 yards. INT
5 opportunities to score a TD and win the game. All failed.
