People over profits. Period. NAACP just intervened in the $67B energy deal reshaping Virginia's "data center alley" because Black communities have borne the brunt of problematic energy issues far too long. Civil rights and environmental justice must be front and center when fossil fuel use is being discussed, and the cost of utilities is on the line. We've advocated against shutoffs, for renewable energy projects, and for low-income energy assistance, and we're just getting started.

Are we going to act like this is normal? When a sitting president boasts about the "very bad things" he could have done to his political rivals, that's not bravado. It's unchecked power and, quite frankly, threatening.
Trump: "I could've done very bad things to Hillary Clinton. I could've done very very bad things to Joe Biden. I could've done very bad things to Barack Hussein Obama ... I can do whatever I want, if I want."

President Trump's recent remarks suggesting Iran could "take out" Los Angeles and San Diego are unconscionable and cannot be laughed off as a joke or explained away. For a president to invite another country to attack his own citizens is disqualifying, disgraceful, and shameful. To say this, then turn around and come to Baltimore to praise the Navy? We are witnessing a president completely disconnected from the very military service members and families he is inciting violence against.
President Trump defended the war with Iran during a campaign rally in Nebraska, calling its economic impact a “small price to pay” for keeping the U.S. and the world safe. “They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,” Trump said while discussing the threat he says Iran poses to the U.S. He also called the war “artificial” and said he expects it to end “very soon.” Trump was in Nebraska campaigning for Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts ahead of the November midterms.

This is and will always be about who has the power…👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾
.@Foxworth24 opened today's episode with thoughts on the Protect College Sports Act and what it's really about 👀 "The core of it is about re-establishing the power the NCAA had in the past – that the court system determined was illegal."

If a coach creates so much revenue, how much do those who actually play? Let's be for real here. No one is saying coaches shouldn't be paid. It's about giving players — who actually create the revenue — a seat at the actual negotiating table. 💻: andscape.com/features/protec…
This morning on ESPN's First Take, Nick Saban argued player and coach pay are "totally different markets." "That's like asking me 'Does a student's scholarship equal the professor's pay?' I mean, how much value does a coach create for a university?" 📺 💰️

You know what would “enhance” players opportunities to be more successful? The ability to be at the table and negotiate when decisions are being made about their lives and their future. Quit looking into cameras and “HUDDLE UP!”
Nick Saban weighs in on the Protect College Sports Act and how it would “enhance players’ opportunities to be more successful.” 👀

The Supreme Court's decision to allow Trump's error-riddled "SAVE" database advances an agenda that threatens voters, not protects them. Qualified citizens could be wrongly flagged as non-citizens. To be clear: this ruling does not permit mass voter roll purges. With fewer than 40 days until the #midterms, we're urging every voter to check their registration, make a plan to vote, and report unlawful actions to 866-OUR-VOTE. #WethePeople have the power. We will not stop fighting for a fair, accessible democracy.

NAACP retweeted
Clarke: There is still more work to be done. There are still hard questions that need to be asked. There are still witnesses who need to be pressed to help this family get the answers they deserve. I spent a lot of time with Nolan Wells’s mother and father, and they are grieving. Nobody has been able to put forth anything that can explain why their son is not here today. There needs to be more focus on the blunt force trauma to the back of Nolan Wells’s head.

Popok: How did the Mississippi official examiner, how did he account for the wounds and trauma points on Nolan Wells's back and head? NAACP General Counsel Kristen Clarke: We don't know. Drowning is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning you have to rule out every other possibility. And so it is hard to figure out how we get from A to Z here, particularly where the autopsy also revealed that there was no water in Nolan's lungs.

The First Amendment is sacred. The truth is sacred. Donald Trump’s move to ban professional journalists who deliver the facts every day from the White House can only be described as authoritarian. We stand with journalists and all who defend press freedom.

Armed agents at the polls? Not on our watch. We're suing the Trump administration to stop the intimidation of Black, Latino, Asian, and immigrant voters this election season. We will continue to clear a path to #midterms, because fear tactics won't have the final say. The voters will. Get ready with us at naacp.org/vote. #WeThePeople

The “Protect College Sports Act” doesn’t really protect the athletes at all

I voted no on the Protect College Sports Act. In classic Washington fashion, Congress has crafted a bill that misses the mark by creating massive federal intervention and buying votes with nearly $200 MILLION in new spending for some schools. This spending isn’t paid for and will only add to our $40 TRILLION debt.   Are there issues in college athletics that deserve federal input? Absolutely. I believe Congress should ban men from competing in women’s sports and create some national standards to end the transfer portal chaos. While this bill makes progress on those issues, it fails to address problems I have heard directly from universities in my state, like disagreements on conference caps, so I couldn’t support it.   This bill also goes way too far inserting the federal government into collegiate athletics. We don’t need federal law that forces schools to lose revenue if they want to change their conference or dictates when schools can change their coaches and where their salaries can come from.   I appreciate the bipartisan work that’s been done to try to provide schools, athletes, and fans with some clarity and consistency, but this legislation simply isn’t there yet. As we continue the September work period, I encourage my colleagues to approach college athletics through a narrower lens, and in the meantime refocus our efforts on actions to bring down the cost of living and secure our federal elections.

Let’s be clear…when the so-called “Protect College Sports Act” is focused on ending and reducing the economic opportunity and protections for student-athletes and their right to organize, the bill is protecting NO ONE except entities that EXPLOIT student-athletes.
The Protect College Sports Act, endorsed by the NCAA and powerful athletic conferences, is a union-busting bill that would limit college athletes’ rights. The Senate must reject this bill and work with athletes to empower them to fight for better terms and conditions on the job.
