Also, "Hatch Act" is so lame compared to the law's real name - The 1939 Act to Prevent Pernicious Political Activities

This is getting insane. Until about two weeks ago, I thought there might be a polling mirage (see also: Dems confidently spending $ in red states in 2016) but when the GOP goes beyond rhetoric to actual $ in places like these...
New: Senate Republicans are weighing three last-ditch spending moves that would have been unimaginable six months ago: a cash infusion for Mississippi and even more money for South Carolina and Kansas w/ @HansNichols @MarcACaputo axios.com/2026/10/21/mississ…

With the NYT, I started fighting in court in 2014 for records from John Durham's investigation of the CIA's post-9/11 torture program. A partial victory at SDNY was overturned by the 2nd Circuit. In 2022, after FOIA law changed, we filed another lawsuit and tried again. /1

FWIW, I think we are going to start seeing a whole lot more of this. It’s harder than ever to get oppo written by real outlets for a number of reasons and campaigns will have to be creative if the choice is between getting it out through imperfect means or letting it die
Officially coining the term oppotainment for when campaigns use influencers to get oppo out instead of/in tandem with press

The Cook Political Report shifted its rating of Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race toward Republicans, another sign that a contest Democrats once expected to win comfortably has become increasingly competitive in the closing weeks of the campaign. wapo.st/4dOOGm6

Noteworthy: @JohnCornyn says he believes Elon Musk would not slow down Starlink without "at least the acquiescence of the White House. "I think it's frankly shameful," he adds.
Texas Senator @JohnCornyn was asked on @CNBC about the throttling of @Starlink in the war between Russian and Ukraine, and he did not hold back!

New: We found cops who kept using Flock to spy on women after they left the force. One used it for five years after retirement, spying on his wife during a custody battle. Another ran searches while he was suspended (and later fired) after killing a 15-year-old boy. 🧵

CONTEXT: 1. Congress passed bipartisan legislation to pay Lejeune victims 4+ years ago so who controls Congress has no role in the payments. It's the federal govt. 2. As of August less than 1% of 407,000 claims have been paid. 3. During that time numerous victims have died waiting: spectrumlocalnews.com/us/snp… 4. There is bipartisan legislation in Congress to speed up cases but it hasn't advanced. Federal judges are pushing for a settlement and the court date is next week: spectrumlocalnews.com/nc/cha… 5. The federal govt. estimates around a million people were exposed to toxic water at Lejeune from 1953-1987. 6. This is the second time this month Trump has threatened money in NC if Republicans don't win. He said the state wouldn't get Helene aid -- he said he was "kidding." @SpecNews1RDU #ncpol
Trump on Camp Lejeune water contamination claims: "If we win the House and Senate, I am directing the Department of Justice to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible ... if we don't win, there's no money."

The video featuring Amy Acton's mom: • doesn't have the disclosures required of political ads. • isn't running on TV, isn't in either the Meta or Google political ad archives. • just started getting shared by right-wing influencers out of nowhere. huffpost.com/entry/amy-acton…

Here's one of the texts Texans got last week. The link is to a real group (Transgender Education Network of Texas), but the group didn't send them. Instead, a faux "trans rights" group was stood up to send the info to voters who, Rs figure, will say "ugh!" and vote for Paxton.
Remember when a purported BLM group called Dallas Justice Now sent letters to rich white people telling them not send their kids to Ivy League schools, and it turned out that Dallas Justice Now was a hoax created by Crowds on Demand at the behest of a Republican megadonor? I do!
