Eastward Ho! Chatham, MA
Ranked 50th in the US, this is the East coast version of a course at Bandon. Designed by William Flynn in the 1920's its a true links course. I can see why it's up there with National Golf Links of America or Fishers Island in terms of golf architecture.
Played Marion Golf Club in Marion MA today literally the finest example of a course built in the early 1900's I've played. This is one of George C Thomas's earliest design. It has everything hillocks, hummocks, steeples and like North Berwick and nearby Sakonett GC, rock walls.
Had the pleasure of playing Interlachen Country Club today, Bobby Jones 3rd leg of his true grand slam in 1930 with a US Open win. A true championship course. Visually stunning and pure greens, a true test of golf.
