As our oceans face growing challenges from climate change and pollution to biodiversity loss and overexploitation of marine resources. The Conference provides a critical platform for global dialogue, partnership, and action.
Bringing leaders, scientists, innovators, and communities together around one shared reality: the future of humanity remains deeply connected to the future of the ocean.
The ceremony was also graced by Our Ocean Conference founder @JohnKerry,Cabinet Secretary for Mining Blue Economy and Martime Affairs @HassanAliJoho.

The 11th Our Ocean Conference opened today in Mombasa, Kenya, with traditional dancers and a live band setting the tone ahead of remarks from heads of government, ministers, and senior representatives from across the globe. Actor and Oceana ambassador Kate Walsh delivered a keynote address in Plenary 1 on marine protected areas.
Three plenaries covered 30x30 and High Seas protection, Blue Economy investment, and the ocean-climate nexus, with 17 side events running alongside the main programme.
Germany announced an additional €19 million for the Blue Action Fund, which has supported 50 million hectares of MPAs globally. EU Commissioner Costas Kadis announced 26 new EU commitments worth over €338 million, including €50 million for the Global Ocean Observing System. The World Bank reported Blue Bond issuances have grown from under $3 billion in 2022 to over $18 billion today. Turkey confirmed oceans and seas among its ten priority areas for COP 31, with a high-level event planned for August ahead of Antalya.
As Plenary 3's moderator put it, the challenge is no longer making the case for why the ocean matters. The challenge is translating ocean-climate commitments into action that delivers.
The conference continues tomorrow in Mombasa for its final day.
