Disappointingly the Labour government has taken away most Planning powers from councillors. They've got this completely the wrong way round, but well done to our @Conservatives RBKC team for creating a Members Reference Meeting to ensure that residents' voices are still heard.

The average of all polls now has the Conservatives ahead of Reform for the first time since January 2025. And that was before this morning's Ipsos poll showing Conservatives 4 points ahead of Reform.

Bids to host the Olympics in Manchester were submitted by Thatcher (for 1996) and by Major (for 2000). Funny that Burnham doesn’t give them credit for that?

EXCLUSIVE: Andy Burnham must “take the knife” to public spending in the budget or risk a Liz Truss-style crisis that will “crater” the economy and the government’s popularity, an ally of the prime minister has warned Andy Haldane, a former chief economist at the Bank of England, said he feared the government would deliver a “mañana budget” that deferred the difficult decisions on public spending and “doesn’t speak to the urgency of now” In an interview with The Times, he said that Britain was “close to being taxed out and maxed out in terms of borrowing”. He spoke of concerns that the government was failing to grasp how “precarious” the fiscal position was He said that the government needs to cut the size of the state and reduce taxes if it were to “unleash the animal spirits and generate growth” Haldane warned Burnham that he cannot “vibe-code” his way to growth, and raised concerns about the gap between the government’s rhetoric and the reality. He said that the government was effectively deferring the “day of reckoning” He also said that the decision to increase taxes on banks could show that the government lacked the courage to cut public spending. He said the move was “penny wise, pound foolish” and sent a broader economic message that if businesses make profits “the taxman cometh” Haldane said that while Burnham had the potential to be a “great prime minister” who could serve two terms, the economy was his “blind spot”. He said that the fiscal situation facing Britain was “precarious” “The penny has not yet fully dropped, including in Downing Street,” he said. “You see that in us having the highest borrowing costs in the G7, despite not having the highest debts and deficits. “It’s the old Hemingway [Ernest Hemingway, the author] thing, isn’t it? How do you go bankrupt? First slowly, then very quickly. The biggest risk to Andy not transforming Britain, to not serving two terms, to not being seen in the history books as a great prime minister, is not political risk. “It’s not those who sit behind him. It’s probably not even those who sit opposite him in Westminster. Keir [Starmer] lost the dressing room. Andy’s biggest risk is that he loses the dealing room. And then that’s an even more painful way to go, as Liz Truss would tell you.” Andy Haldane: PM risks Truss-style crisis if he dodges tough choices thetimes.com/article/9b12c00…

It seems the current Leader of the Liberal Democrats has forgotten about Local Government? In these Local Councils, the Lib Dem's and Greens are literally governing together: Babergh: Green, Independent and Liberal Democrat Basingstoke and Deane: Liberal Democrats and Independent Forum, including Greens Birmingham: Liberal Democrat, Green and independent groups Burnley: Independent, Liberal Democrat and Green Cherwell: Liberal Democrat, Green and independent Devon County: Liberal Democrat-led, with Green cabinet representation Dorset: Liberal Democrat-led, with Green cabinet representation East Devon: Liberal Democrat, Green and Independent East Hertfordshire: Green and Liberal Democrat East Suffolk: Green, Liberal Democrat and Independent Folkestone and Hythe: Green and Liberal Democrat King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: Independent, Liberal Democrat and Green Lancaster: Green, Liberal Democrat and Morecambe Bay Independents Maidstone: Green, Liberal Democrat and Independent Tewkesbury: Liberal Democrat, Green and Independent Edward: the time of being everything to everyone is over, we trust you will be taking steps to put an end to your party 'remaining in arrangements with a party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s.'
I am ruling out our party entering into a national partnership with any party that is committed to a dangerous and antisemitic policy like the Green Party’s. Here is my letter to the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies of British Jews 👇

The British Government borrowed £24.5bn in September alone. Not for the whole year. Not for the year up to September. Just September. That's the highest borrowing for any month EVER except for the Covid-struck year 2020-21.

We have nationwide rent controls now. This tribunal didn’t just stop a rent rise within a tenancy, it cut the rent to below what had been agreed between the landlord and the tenant at the start of the tenancy based on a judgement of what the property is worth.

Conservatives remain in the lead as the party that most people would consider voting for. Conservatives 44% Labour 42% Reform 38% Lib Dems 30% Greens 22%
Beyond those who’d currently vote for a party how have their broader potential voter pools changed? The Conservatives have the highest considerers, while Labour’s combined current/consider has leapt up since July. The Lib Dem ceiling dipped, Reform stable, Greens fell most

To quote a song from the previous year: I know that was then, but it could be again…?
The Britain the ‘97 Conservative manifesto describes is shockingly functional. World leading in fiscal prudence and economic success: More exports per capita than America, more pension savings than the entire EU, an entire section called “the best place in the world to live”

Reform are now entering the Death Zone. Once they begin to poll consistently behind the Tories it's over.
Reform in third is becoming a pattern. A year ago Reform were leading on 33% with @Moreincommon_ (their high point), 13 ahead of Labour. Now they are down 12 points. October 2025: Reform UK: 33% Labour: 20% Conservatives: 19% Lib Dems: 14% Greens: 8% SNP: 3%

Huge story: Andy Burnham lied about his meetings with Man City’s ownership. He claimed he had only one meeting with them, but he twice had dinner with City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak at City’s stadium alone. What else is Abu Dhabi Andy covering up? thesun.co.uk/sport/40675222/…
