I was thinking this too. Like has it ever dawned on some of you that your kids need a break *from you*
I used to beg my parents to go out and have fun without me! I promise your kids will be okay for 39 hours away from you.

So the word is "cast" and Derry Girls was set in a time and place that was literally almost exclusively white because no one wanted to move to a military checkpoint.
No one said this shit about Derry Girls which was actually was CASTED like that and was not that long ago
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Derry Girls is set during the 1990s, when Northern Ireland was an active warzone and had a 98% white population. Several episodes reference the fact no one wants to come there, or show the girls’ microaggressions to other races/nationalities, such as Chinese and Ukrainian. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demograph… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derry_Gir… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Troub…

The island of Ireland in the 80s was so unbelievably white that my mother was noted for having brown eyes at school

There's an entire episode in which they try to befriend an Asian girl and the running gag is how little diversity the city has bc nobody who wanted to move to Britain would choose a warzone

People from Ireland are trying to explain to this American lady why Derry had virtually no inward immigration in the 90s and she is actually arguing back with them, Yanks man.

the issue with the sexualisation of nuns isn't because it's disrespectful to christianity it's because it follows the male rape fantasy of sullying a "chaste" woman
The trope of gay priests is as disrespectful as sexualizing nuns btw

I find it so dystopian that people have savings accounts. You’re 24 years old with £5,000 sitting there and you haven’t even been to New York Fashion Week? What exactly are you saving for?

Great example in my friend circle. Friend A took issue because Friend B hadn’t been to any of his kids bdays. Friend B threw a housewarming that Friend A skipped in addition to numerous other friend B hosted gatherings because of “busy parent life”
“My kids come first” is a lazy and unserious cop out that new parents use. No one expects your child not to come first. What they do expect is for you to give a day or 3 out of your year to make time for your friends(if you care to keep them ofc!).

I genuinely like my kids more than anyone else. They will always get chosen first. If that's a deal-breaker so be it.

it’s always so jarring to see how people just hate their friends
Pet peeve of mine is adults that make a very big deal about their birthdays & expect that their friends are obligated to participate
