Do you think to be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant? We’ve created a playlist of Protestant Timothy Kauffman interacting with Catholics and the church fathers. Come watch to get the other side. youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

I'm convinced 95% of Christians don't actually view our Faith as the one pearl of great price. "I don't have the scholarly abilities..." Then sell everything you have and acquire them. Is Christ not worth that?
Replying to @MFScannell @grok
Without AI I wouldn’t have become Catholic. I don’t have the scholarly abilities to do the deep research myself. Being able to ask questions in the order that one has them, rather than in the order that a book presents them, is a 100x win for evangelization. Thanks again @grok for reducing the friction to learning history.

My Josephus and Jesus book is #4 on Amazon's best-selling books on Christianity – totally flummoxed how it's possible for a $100 book that can be downloaded for free on the book website to be ranked that high, but here we are.

George Lucas didn’t have the balls to tell the actually compelling story here: Padme really was going to die during pregnancy, the Dark Side really is stronger, Anakin becomes a Sith to save her and his children, and he does save them, but after learning of the terrible things he’s done (younglings), she kills herself. That’s a story. Shakespearean. Like Hamlet’s Ophelia. In that version, Anakin had to become Vader for Luke to be born, so that together they could overthrow the Emperor. Suddenly everything falls into place. Instead Lucas has to tell the boring black-and-white version where Palpatine was just lying and there was actually no point whatsoever in Anakin becoming a Sith and Padme just spontaneously evaporates.
Quick Padme rant now that the prequels are trending again.
One of the things that bothers me most about Padme and also incidentally exemplifies how she really does fit the progressive, longhoused girlfriend meme is her death.
A lot of people simplify her death into "Oh Anakin killed her."
To be clear, he did not kill her.
The movie explicitly states she was physically fine but died of a broken heart.
So this woman has 2 newborn children, but she is so heartbroken over Anakin rejecting the Republic and going to the darkside that she can't even summon the will to live to raise her own babies.
Madness. Insanity. Perfect illustration of the liberal adherence to ideology over family.

You know what is also religious trauma???
Being told by your own atheist father as a small child that when you die there is nothing else, you simply and forever cease to exist.
The sheer panic kept me up at night. It made my heart and mind race. It was devastating to me to be told such a thing, and it was also devastating, and objectively harmful to believe it for years.
I mean, after all, what exactly is the point if there is no point?

The gulf between the actual position of the Roman Catholic Church... and the performative slop posted by their army of E-girls, is a veritable chasm.
There’s at least evidence for Bigfoot.

Niemcy aby ratować swój przemysł muszą przejąć kontrolę nad Polską i to właśnie robią. Reszta jest tłem.
I just talked with a woman, 31 not Christian I assume, who was in a relationship for 5 years with a man in his forties. He led her along thinking marriage is in the future.
He never committed. Now she’s 31 and he waster prime years to find a mate and have kids.
Get the important stuff sorted out up front.

HOW DID TUSK GET BACK IN?
Poland has a President as well as a Prime Minister. The President is head of state, the Prime Minister runs the government day to day.
Tusk was President of the European Council in Brussels - one of the top jobs in the EU. Big salary, big prestige. He came back to Poland in 2021 to take over his old party, Civic Platform.
In October 2023 there was the general election. PiS - Law and Justice - actually got the most votes as a single party, but not a majority. Tusk put together a coalition of three - his Civic Coalition, plus Third Way, plus the Left.
Between them they had just enough seats to take power. So President Duda had to give Tusk the chance to form a government, and he became Prime Minister again in December 2023.
How did he win?
He didn't win the conservative, working class, rural Poland. He won the big cities - Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw - and he aimed his campaign at white liberal middle class women and young graduates who want to be seen as European, not Polish.
Poland has secure borders. They have no mass no experience of the difficulties that are ahead .
No immigration from Somalia, Afghanistan, places like that. Most people there have never lived with what we have lived with in England. So it's easy to vote liberal when you don't have to live with the consequences.
Why would he leave a cushy EU job in Brussels to go back?
Because Brussels needed him back in Warsaw. PiS were blocking EU federalism. They wanted to keep the Zloty, keep their gold, keep their borders, keep their own courts. They were a problem for Germany and Brussels.
Tusk is their man in Warsaw. Put him back in to take over the courts, take over the Tribunal, open the borders, and get Poland into the Euro.
That's why he came back. Not for Poland - for Brussels.
@D_Tarczynski have I got this about right ?
You know when you abandoned the gospel you didn’t have to go for low tier arguments.
Wow, people disagree like they always have. What kept things together prior to the Reformation? Government violence which involved the death penalty.
You know that thing that God mandates and is clear as day in Scripture to being licit but your new church that gives you all that clarity flip flopped on before you even converted so you should have known better?
The Psychology of Catholic Converts Examined

Happy Reformation Day to most Protestants celebrating Luther while rejecting so much of what he actually taught. Apparently, challenging the Catholic Church is enough to overlook some pretty serious disagreements.
Luther supported civil punishment of Anabaptists. He certainly wasn’t defending everyone’s freedom to interpret Scripture and start another church.
Here’s a list of what he believed: baptismal regeneration, infant baptism that forgives original sin rather than believers-only baptism, Mary’s perpetual virginity, Mary as the Mother of God, Mary’s assumption into heaven, Christ’s true body and blood present in the Eucharist, Communion conveying forgiveness of sins, private confession and ministerial absolution, making the sign of the cross, retaining religious images in churches, the permissibility of limited prayers for the dead, and the possibility of a genuine believer falling away from salvation.
How many of those beliefs would get someone accused of being “too Catholic” in your church today?
Oh, but wait. Semper reformanda. Always reforming, I guess?

It’s worth remembering that in nearby Romania, Calin Georgescu is currently in jail on a supposed fraud case, and is still being investigated for things like ‘spreading disinformation.’ His real crime seems to have been winning the first round of the 2024 presidential election - which was later annulled, and a candidate acceptable to the EU became president.
Understand the stakes

If Europe is going to go full authoritarian, I want out of NATO
Under the cover of night and in the absence of the President of the Republic of Poland from the country, the police have forcibly taken control of the empty Constitutional Tribunal building.
The police claim that activities posing a threat to health and life were allegedly taking place inside the vacant building over the weekend. Despite this, the Tribunal’s own security personnel, the Vice-President of the Tribunal, and its director are being denied entry. In violation of the law, the police officers have obscured the identification numbers and names on their uniforms—a practice typically employed when an officer knows they are breaking the law and wishes to avoid being identified.
President Karol Nawrocki has ordered the presidential aircraft, which was en route to Senegal, to turn back; he is now returning to Poland. Previously, the President had warned Prime Minister Donald Tusk that any attempt to forcibly enter the Constitutional Tribunal would be met with a firm response.
Article 128 of the Polish Penal Code stipulates that anyone who, with the intent to remove a constitutional body of the Republic of Poland by force, engages in activities directly aimed at achieving this objective, is subject to a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
Two years ago, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal filed a notification with the prosecutor's office, alleging that the government—under the direction of Prime Minister Donald Tusk—had committed the crime of a coup d'état. The process of authoritarian consolidation in Poland continues. The assault on the Constitutional Tribunal and the President represents the final stages of a complete, undemocratic seizure of power.
Once again in its history, Poland is fighting against totalitarianism.

You can cancel an election and ban the winner from running (Romania), you can ban your opponents from ever running again (Hungary), you can threaten to ban the main opposition party and subject it to relentless investigations by the secret police (Germany), you can threaten a ban on the leading presidential candidate and make them wear an ankle monitor (France), every member of your circle can be investigated for corruption (Spain), you can try and cancel local elections because you will lose them (Britain), and you can storm the constitutional court with riot police because you want to control it (Poland).
You can just do all these things. The secret is you just have to be on the right side of the European Commission.
