Fearmongering about piracy is an escapegoat for incompetence If I ever make a project and piracy ""kills"" it that means I fucked up and failed to get the product in the hands of people who wanted it at a reasonable price

On the topic of AI assistance in coding: (do note PH does not use any LLM-assisted code, so don't panic just yet) I know this is the PH account and yada yada, but I thought I had to give my two cents on AI slop coding. It saddens me to see how people conflate vibe coding with AI assisted engineering, most of these new decomp-based ports coming out are done by people who have no idea about the code the machine is writing. I also think there are plenty of reasons to dislike AI that don't require making things up. I don't use AI assist much outside my day job where I'm forced to, but I think you have to treat LLMs like very dumb junior programmers that you have to be constantly on top of, you must be a seasoned programmer to ensure the code they make is not ass or has some hidden problem, you basically have to act like a conventional lead programmer, I do not leaving the machine to just write and commit shit without any supervision is a good idea at all, every single line should at least be superficially audited by a person. Hell, those decomps are perfect examples of good use of LLMs, the base decomps are often LLM assisted, but they are done by people who know what they are doing, I myself have contributed to a decomp for a very popular GameCube game and I have seen this first hand (I hate you MetroWerks CodeWarrior compiler). On the other hand, the ports based on those decomps are often entirely written by AI, resulting in unoptimized code that's harder to port around and can cause future problems when trying to mod it or upgrade it, just try the ssbm port for 3ds and vita, those systems should on paper have no problem running those games, yet they run like ass and are unstable (and are bad ports for complicated technical reasons I won't go into). If the machine is writing code you would be unable to write yourself if given enough time then you're a dumb vibe coder, and your code will never be good. I think some code is fundamental to the soul of a game, for example integration of middleware like steamworks or setting up CI isn't really going to affect the soul of the game, so it's fine to use it for that. But for fundamental mechanics of the game, I think you do need the human factor to make it good, the parts that give the game a "feel" are the ones that give it the soul Of course implementing the Gilbert–Johnson–Keerthi distance algorithm is something you can delegate to an LLM because it's a mathematical construct and it has exactly one behaviour. And of course no art in the game should be AI generated (and indeed, in PH none is), that's just stupid and disrespectful, art is the biggest part of the soul of a game. In general, if you're a seasoned developer and use AI as a force multiplier I think you will be fine, you have to use it in moderation. My biggest personal problem with AI is relying on companies that are subsidizing the pricing of the system at this time and when the AI market crashes you will be left with nothing. That's why you should continue to become a better programmer through training and knowledge seeking. Of course there are other concerns about AI, such as energy usage, the memory price crisis and more, and I hope the technology develops in such a way we can finally run these things locally instead of relying on renting a rich company's machinery. I do suspect the memory price crisis is actually intentional and at least partially a result of memory makers performing illegal price fixing. In my particular case (again, not on PH) it has helped me push through the tedious parts of projects so I can focus on the parts that matter. I know I'm very late on everything PH related, but I'd rather keep working slowly than getting lazy.

The only time the game gets attention is when I do some clickbaity joke like the NFT incident or the Ubisoft acquisition Am I gonna have to do something unspeakable like clubbing an old lady with a baby seal so people will know about the game after I end up in a Google dockey?

This is the biggest load of limp-wristed twaddle I've seen in my 26 years on this planet. Not only are paternal instincts a real thing, but you're also an idiot.
lots of strange reactions to this game. let’s clear some things up: childless men do not have paternal instincts the way that childless women have maternal instincts (we observe this even in the way little girls play vs. little boys). men first experience paternal instincts once they have their own children - and typically, those paternal instincts are only ever felt for their own children, and no one else’s. men are not nurturers. men don’t gush over cute kids in public. men don’t have baby fever. if a man wants to possess a child for any reason other than it being a product of his own lineage, he is likely a predator. and you’d be taking the feminist/radical gender abolitionist position to protest any of the above points. this should explain why a “dad simulator” game marketed to mostly childless men gives people the creeps.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Men experience "baby fever" and paternal instincts before fatherhood, with hormonal changes (e.g., oxytocin release) supporting nurturing and protective behaviors toward non-biological children, as seen in alloparenting and adoption. psychologicalscience.org/news/whos-the-… childandfamilyblog.com/nurturing-fath… pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC67…

🚨 NEW ANTI-AI BOT MEASURE 🚨 Some bad actors (AI/non-AI web scrappers) have been DDOS-ing the Project Heartbeat website & backend for a long time. Today we've finally introduced Anubis to stop them, with the power of anime girls, it will help fight these bots!

Project Heartbeat mentioned! Sad about the figure tho
-STOLEN FIGURE- March 18, 9:49pm. Our Hatsune Mike (qposket figure of Miku) figure was stolen on our Project Diva arcade machine. Mike has been an icon for our rhythm gamers. A couple came in with their child and while staff was busy wrapping up the night, Mike was taken from us. We have filed a police report but if you have any information, please email us. We want to emphasize that this is not an extended April Fools joke. This actually happened. We have a few testimonies from our gamers. "When I play Project Heartbeat at home, I play it to make sure I can do well on the diva cabinet at Xepher Arcade and make Hatsune Mike proud, now I can no longer make her proud. Hatsune Mike was like a mother to me, and now she is gone. Bring back Mike" - Vanya, RWBY enjoyer "hatsune mike has been there for me for my entire journey to the top of the project diva arcade leaderboards. when i cleared intense voice, she was there. when i got the #1 score on romeo and cinderella ex, she was there. throughout my entire journey to the top of the leaderboard, she was there. mike cheered me on for every step of the way. she's kind of a lot like a jesus candle to me. losing her is... losing her is like losing my biggest fan. i miss her. please bring mike back." - M4X, Xepher's best Project Diva player "i mean who steals a qPosket honestly" - Katare
