Today, PCCD joined @PAHumanServices and @PACountiesGR to host the final day of the 2026 Statewide Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Conference in Hershey, a 2-day event bringing together more than 250 law enforcement professionals, behavioral health practitioners, first responders, advocates, and community partners committed to improving crisis response across Pennsylvania. The conference also marked one year of progress for Pennsylvania's statewide CIT Training and Technical Assistance Center — a resource helping communities strengthen crisis response through training, collaboration, and access to best practices. In its first year, the Center: •Responded to 108 training and technical assistance requests •Trained 65 county leaders in CIT •Hosted statewide webinars and virtual learning opportunities •Established a statewide CIT Steering Committee to help guide future efforts Over the past two years, PCCD has invested more than $4.5 million to expand CIT programs, training, and co-responder models across Pennsylvania. Today, we pause for a moment and remember the 11 people who were killed and 6 others who were injured in the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill on October 27, 2018.   Joyce, Richard, Rose, Jerry, Cecil, David, Bernice, Sylvan, Daniel, Melvin, and Irving were beloved members of this community whose memories remain with us and are honored everyday through acts of service.   I’ve seen firsthand how the Pittsburgh community has supported each other in the years since the deadliest antisemitic attack in this country. Through vigils and rallies, fundraisers and days of action, people from across faiths and different backgrounds have stood side by side, reminding all of us that we are stronger than hate.   Construction on the new synagogue is ongoing, and it is my hope that it serves not just as a place of strength and remembrance for the Tree of Life community, but for all to us to find ways to embrace each other despite perceived differences.

Eight years ago today, we suffered the deadliest act of antisemitism in American history when a killer entered Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh while people prayed and murdered 11 of our neighbors. It’s been 2,922 days since the attack, but the pain still lingers in our Commonwealth. Today we offer prayers of comfort to those touched by this violence. Let today be a moment for action, remembrance, and resolve to combat antisemitism in all forms. May the memories of Joyce Fienberg, Richard Gottfried, Rose Mallinger, Jerry Rabinowitz, Cecil Rosenthal, David Rosenthal, Bernice Simon, Sylvan Simon, Daniel Stein, Melvin Wax, and Irving Younger forever be a blessing.

Pennsylvania is taking an important step toward greater transparency, accountability, and support for survivors of sexual assault. The @GovernorShapiro–@LGAustinDavis Admin is advancing Pennsylvania's 1st statewide sexual assault kit tracking system, giving survivors greater visibility into the status of their evidence and helping ensure kits are handled with care throughout the investigative process. Through PCCD's Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), Track-Kit is being piloted in Erie, Lancaster, and York counties with 12 hospitals and 64 law enforcement agencies, ahead of its statewide rollout in December 2026. The Shapiro-Davis Administration is also strengthening survivor support through a $12M increase for rape crisis centers in the 2026–27 state budget, nearly doubling state funding for these critical services. Regardless of where you live, what kind of job you have, or what political party you support — most Pennsylvanians want the same four basic things: 1. Good schools for their kids. 2. Safe communities to live in. 3. The opportunity to work a good-paying job that supports their family. 4. Their fundamental freedoms protected. Getting stuff done might not always be easy, but no matter what challenges we face, I’m focused on those four things — and we’re delivering on all of them here in Pennsylvania.

Addressing gun violence has been something I’ve worked on since I was 16 years old when someone was shot on my block.   No one should experience gun violence and no one should be made to feel unsafe in their own communities. And it’s through my work as Lieutenant Governor that Pennsylvania has made significant progress to reduce rates of gun violence and make communities safer. It’s some of the most important work we do in Pennsylvania and we’re not going to stop anytime soon.

The path to reducing gun violence always comes back to making sure people have access to better education, better job opportunities, and a safe and enriching community to call home.   It’s through this approach, with targeted state investments, that the Shapiro-Davis administration has made significant progress to reduce gun violence rates. There’s still more work to do – and that’s why we can’t take our foot off the gas.

During #NationalBullyingPreventionMonth, new Pennsylvania Youth Survey data offers encouraging signs: students are reporting improved mental health, greater feelings of safety at school, and stronger trust that adults will intervene when bullying occurs.   The 2025 PAYS found that 83% of participating students report feeling safe at school, up from 78% in 2023. It also found that 76% of students reported their overall mental health is good, up from 71% in 2023.   These gains matter — and they reflect the importance of sustained investments in school safety, student mental health, prevention, and supportive school climates.   The data also shows there is more work to do. Some bullying indicators have improved, but frequent bullying and school avoidance due to bullying have not returned to pre-2021 levels.   PCCD-supported tools like PAYS help schools and communities better understand student experiences and strengthen prevention strategies that help young people feel safe, supported, and connected.   Learn more: pa.gov/agencies/pccd/newsroo…   #BullyingPrevention #PennsylvaniaSchoolSafety #PAYS #YouthWellBeing
