Darmok is, entirely unironically, the greatest sci-fi story of all time

Somewhere, in a universe next to ours, a man who looks very much like Patrick Stewart wakes up from a long strange dream and begins playing the flute.

I just know Patrick Stewart is walking along in heaven, seeing a beautiful girl whose clothes have just fallen off, and she's scrabbling around to get them back on again, but even before she can get her knickers on, Patrick's seen everything.

resharing this one for frankly devastating reasons

In honour of Sir Patrick Stewartโs passing, here are my top ten episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation:
1. The Inner Light (S5 Ep. 25)
2. Tapestry (S6 Ep. 15)
3. The Measure of a Man (S1 Ep. 9)
4. Darmok (S5 Ep. 2)
5. The Drumhead (S4 Ep. 21)
6. The Pegasus (S7 Ep. 12)
7. I, Borg (S5 Ep. 23)
8. Who Watches the Watchers (S3 Ep. 4)
9. Ensign Ro (S5 Ep. 3)
10. Cause and Effect (S5 Ep. 18)
All are philosophically very interesting and most are carried by Stewartโs performance. I highly recommend them.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we werenโt in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. โBut Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to riskโgetting lost in Hollywood for years and years?โ. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in Londonโs West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Literally one of the best lines ever said by an actor in anything.

RIP Patrick Stewart. What an actor. I still canโt believe he agreed to do this scene. And he didnโt even mind when I ruined every take. Legend.

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admirationย for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man. I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days. @mang0ld

Your post reads precisely like something AI generated or โpolished.โ My original post does not (because it isnโt). I have a particular style of writing, for better or worse, which is consistent through thousands of posts, articles, books etc, and often involve for example run on sentences like this one and the second sentence of the post youโre responding to. My writing is also not all that polished, technically speaking. Itโs descriptive and coherent but if I started running it through an algorithm for โpolishโ it would be extremely obvious. Also, the idea of โpolishingโ a post for Twitter is extremely gay and retarded. This is a place for rough and raw communication between human beings. Thatโs the whole fun of it. Or at least itโs supposed to be.

The best thing about Harry Kane is that in an industry that churns out absolute wankers he is just a nice guy who loves his family, works hard at his job and is the best person he can be. Excellent role model.
๐จ๐จ๐๏ธ| Harry Kane delivers an emotional tribute to his parents, wife and children after winning the 2026 Ballon dโOr! โค๏ธ๐
To his mum and dad:
โWhat a moment. All those years, the sacrifice you gave me, the support you gave me, the times taking me to training, coming to watch me play, all around England, all around Germany, no matter where it was, even to this day you're there.โ
โThere was never any pressure from you to become a footballer. It was always about working hard, it was always about improving, it was always about learning.โ
โI love you. Thank you very much.โ
To his children:
โTo Ivy, Vivian, Louis and Henry, you're the reason I do this.โ
โI want to set a good example, being a father, but also being a professional and what it means to work hard, what it means to believe in yourself. I love you very much.โ
To his wife Katie:
โMy best friend. We've been through ups and downs, for sure. You're my biggest supporter.โ
โHere it is. We've done it. You've always done the best for me. You sacrificed yourself to help me achieve my dreams.โ
โThis is a trophy that we celebrate, not me. It's me and you. It's all the family.โ
โI love you.โ โค๏ธ
