Me not understanding age regression when hooking up with someone: "Hey just so you know I'm actually 16."

I think it's underdiscussed among intellectual historians that secularism really started to triumph once random deaths of loved ones started to become something unexpected rather than commonplace
craziest thing about history is how often your children would just die. and not that long ago. i'm reading a bio of Lincoln and it just slips that his kids kept dying tragically. today that's a life-defining event. did everyone just walk around with PTSD or what

this isn't going to be as effective as people think, because 80% of low info voters believe in a Totem Theory of Politics where the president is in control of all things in the country until he is voted out
psa this bastard put a fuckin dead man's switch in his legislation

The gay marriage campaigns were way better resourced than trans rights has ever been and bans on gay marriage were enacted in 90% of ballot contests in the 2000s, usually with 70+ percent of the vote. A loss is a loss but the field is better than conventional wisdom assumes

If we flip Mississippi and it turns blue that means it’s transitioning and we have to call it Mistersippi. I don’t make the rules

When trans rights are part of a coalition - tied to abortion rights in Missouri or with candidate/party platforms across the country - we did well. When we're isolated as a single issue we have to figjt uphill. That's the lesson.

i’d say it mainly demonstrates that most americans are broadly fine with trans people existing and generally pro-equality, but don’t actually think it’s possible to change one’s sеx. the general public thinks medical transition is cosmetic. they hear “trans” and think “pronouns.”
Trans people winning in red states while anti-trans ballot props win everywhere is either an indication that voters are ok with trans people but won’t budge on sports/bathroom (bad) or that voters broadly dislike “transgenderism” but not trans people they can name (also bad)

this is what I have to hope, bc this is basically what happened w gay rights

I suspect the Dem line for the next few years will be "we support trans healthcare but no surgeries for minors and no trans women in sports." That'll be the dominant policy for a few years and our job will be to change it during the course of the next Dem presidency.

Remember folks, proposition 8 banning gay marriage passed in California in 2008. It's important to take the long view. Republicans getting crushed while running on being anti-trans was a necessary first step.

this + Turek + the other ballot measures herald EXTREMELY bad things if centrists get their way. i have hope though: UK Labor only went fascist because in the UK transphobia wasn't indelibly culturally tied to the core of jug-hooting conservatism like it is in the U.S.
damn even though dems swept arizona, a bathroom bill passed by 18 points, evil country

it's seeming like this is the only solid base left for the GOP, which actually tracks with their attempts to destroy colleges

If it isn't just a flash in the pan, I think that this could genuinely be the start of a massive political realignment, with Dem gains among educated & suburban voters putting the sun belt permanently in contention. What even is the GOP base then? The Great Plains?

my thoughts on tonight adequately summarized
if you don't enjoy the schadenfreude of seeing republicans sobbing and screaming and freaking out you have no heart. if you think the democrats are going to actually do anything you have no brain.
