Easy to laugh at the anti-AI folk, but their situation is so unbelievably sad and they wear their anxiety so much on their sleeve… I feel bad for them.

The China state-aligned threat actor Storm-0940 used the agentic AI penetration testing framework ARTEX to automate attacks targeting hundreds of organizations globally across a broad range of industries. Microsoft Threat Intelligence assesses that Storm-0940 was responsible for the recently disclosed ConnectWise supply chain compromise of a multitenant application. msft.it/6018aakEE Our investigation found that Storm-0940's use of ARTEX accelerated the speed of compromised application abuse to authenticate to target environments through applications that had already been granted access, allowing the threat actor to operate without requiring an interactive user sign-in. AI-accelerated follow-on activity included reconnaissance, application credential changes, and attempts to modify privileges that could enable expanded or persistent access. Read our blog for a detailed analysis and indicators of compromise (IOCs), along with Microsoft Defender detections, protection recommendations, and guidance on investigating service principal sign-ins and unexpected application credential or privilege changes.

As it was, so it will be.
Attackers will evolve. Defenders will evolve. Neither will win.

Yesterday, rumors started circulating about two unpatched critical-severity bugs in PHP. Within 17 hours, Cloudflare was blocking attacks and Patchstack reported active exploitation. When AI can develop a working exploit in hours, bugs need to be patched just as fast. Each day without a fix carries the risk that an attacker will find and exploit the bug. But it takes time to create a working patch, and PHP's patch was more complex than most. The patch changed 402 files and added more than 11,000 lines, reworking core engine behavior that dozens of extensions depended on. The bug was reported on Aug 11, and fixes were shipped 71 days later. But less than a day after details leaked, systems running PHP were already under attack. Patching needs to keep up with the pace of bug discovery. For the past four months, we’ve worked directly with open-source projects as part of Patch the Planet to understand how AI can expedite patching. Our ongoing research and work show that project-specific documentation, skills, and plugins can be embedded at the repo level to give agents and contributors access to the context maintainers carry in their heads: what counts as a bug, how a fix should look, and what can't break. Our two new open-source plugins, patching-bugs and regression-hunt, are a first step toward a generalized set of tools and guidance for getting a working patch out faster: blog.trailofbits.com/2026/10… PHP’s account of the incident: thephp.foundation/blog/2026/…

Do you know who illustrated the comic on calif.io/php2shell? Her name is Stephanie Cortes. And her husband is the hacker who discovered php2shell: @lcfr_hax. This artist-hacker couple has the best story, stay tuned!

Wait a minute
if this PHP vulnerability allows remote code execution, doesn't that mean we can use the vulnerability to auto-patch all vulnerable servers?

i think this evening-into-morning has been a fascinating storm of chaos and uncertainty with potential proof of concept exploits (generated by LLMs) being shared publicly and privately (then analyzed by LLMs) without clarity or understanding of what is actually "the" exploit or if it is "other" exploits (found by LLMs) all to hope for potential defenses (built by LLMs) we used to be so concerned with robots hallucinating at this point we might be the ones hallucinating ourselves

We were all supposed to wait until Thursday at 11am ET. Information has leaked wrt zero-day embargoed RCE vulns in PHP. We can confirm that they're real. CVE-2926-109618/619 We cannot share further information right now. Take this seriously and apply patches when available.

btw, we hacked our way past the one-hour limit after we realized our library card numbers, used as a key for signing in to PCs, were simply incremented and easy to guess.
core memory > me and brother, I'm 9 y/o > too poor to afford yu-gi-oh cards > no internet but we do have library cards > so one hour per day max on library PCs > go to library, look up yu-gi-oh cards > pay to have them printed > all different sizes, can't play with them > but we do have cardboard > we cut rectangles out of cardboard > we manually draw card details on each > we play with very thick but valid cards innovation skill tree unlocked

Our latest model advances bring stronger capabilities for building and migrating software in low-resource programming languages such as COBOL, Fortran, and Visual Basic. These languages power software that banks, governments, and businesses depend on. Progress here means understanding decades of business logic and helping developers modernize those systems while preserving what works. We’re building these capabilities around the challenges developers and enterprise customers bring us. If your team is working on these systems, tell us which languages and workflows we should tackle next. openai.com/index/low-resourc…
