My dad gave up custody of me when I was 8 and moved out of Winnipeg. My grandparents raised me.
For 26 years, I got almost nothing from him.
I'm 34 now. I'm an electrician, married, with a baby on the way.
Last week, I got a message from a woman I'd never met.
"Hi Ethan. I'm Jenna, your half-sister. Dad has liver failure. The doctors say weeks, maybe months. He's in a hospice in Thunder Bay. Could you come?"
My dad missed my high school graduation, my apprenticeship, and my wedding.
When I was a kid, he sometimes called on my birthday. Slurred, and always late at night.
I wrote back:
"He didn't want me at 8. Why would I sit by his bed at 34?"
Jenna replied:
"He never said he didn't want you. He said he wasn't safe for you."
I put my phone down and went to the garage and sat there for an hour.

In October, my car loan company sent me a letter saying I'd missed three payments and that my car would be repossessed in ten days. I hadn't missed a single one, because I'd set up autopay the day I bought the car. I drove to their office and brought one thing on my phone…

I do not think every horror classic needs a remake, and Carrie is a good example of why the approach matters.
Repeating the same story with better effects does not automatically justify telling it again. A new adaptation needs to find something in the original that speaks differently to the present generation.
Bullying, religious control, isolation, and public humiliation still exist. Their forms may change, but the emotional damage remains familiar.
That is where a new Carrie can justify its existence.
Do not remake a classic simply because the title is recognizable. Remake it because you have something new and uncomfortable to say about it.

The night I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me, I was sitting in his mother’s kitchen helping her prepare the food for our introduction ceremony
And the woman he was cheating with was the same woman who had been calling me “my daughter” for almost three years
Let me explain
I met Daniel when I was 24, and for the first time in my life, I felt like I didn't have to beg a man to love me
He called me every morning, stayed on the phone with me until I fell asleep, and whenever I cried, he would say, “Baby, you’re my wife already, we’re just waiting for the right time”
I believed him
When he lost his job, I used my savings to help him pay rent
When his father got sick, I sent money for hospital bills without asking when he would pay me back
My friends warned me that I was doing too much, but I always defended him
“Daniel isn't like other men”
That was my favorite sentence
His mother loved me too, or at least I thought she did
She would call me to ask about his meals, tell me how lucky her son was, and even send me pictures of wedding dresses she wanted me to wear
So when Daniel told me we should finally meet both families, I cried that night because I thought all my sacrifices had finally meant something
I had no idea I was about to discover that I was the only person in that relationship who didn't know the truth

Unprotected sex isn't just about pleasure. It's about trust, health, and the risks you both take.
Before sharing that level of intimacy, have honest conversations about STI testing, contraception, and each other's health.
Love matters, but so does protecting yourself

I went to dinner with my husband and his best friend. Halfway through the night I ended up in the restaurant bathroom with his friend’s thick cóck buried deep inside me, fucking me against the door while my husband was outside on a call.
The three of us were at a corner table. Wine was flowing. My husband got up to take a call. His friend looked at me across the table, eyes dark, and said under his breath, “You’ve been staring at my cock all night. Bathroom. Two minutes.” I stood up on shaky legs and followed.

I started wanting my husbands best friend..
I just always thought of Steve as John’s buddy, almost like a brother actually.
He had been around since before we got married. Game nights, birthdays, random weekends where he showed up with beer and stayed too long. He knew where the extra glasses were. He joked with John in a way that came from years, not effort. For a long time, I didn’t think about him as anything else.
Then I started noticing stupid things
How he always rinsed his plate before putting it in the sink. How he remembered I didn’t like onions in the salsa. How he went quiet when John got on work calls and left the two of us in the kitchen. None of it meant anything on its own. That was what made it worse.
The first time it felt different was a weeknight.
John was home, but stuck on a call in the bedroom. Steve had come over to return a charger and somehow ended up staying for leftovers. I was reheating food. He stood on the other side of the counter, scrolling his phone. Comfortable. Too comfortable.
“You want the rest of the rice?” I asked.
“If you don’t”
I passed him the container. Our fingers touched for a second. Neither of us commented on it. People touched by accident all the time. I still pulled my hand back too fast.
John laughed at something through the wall. Steve glanced toward the hallway, then back at me.
“He’s always on calls now” he said.

I accidentally sent a nude meant for my boyfriend to our family pastor, and his response made me dread going to church more than the mistake itself.
His message came at 10:47 p.m.
“Please be careful with your contacts. I believe this message was intended for someone else.”
I wanted the floor to open beneath me.
The photograph was unmistakable. I had taken it in my bedroom mirror, feeling confident enough to send something daring to my boyfriend. Our names were next to each other in my contacts, and I had selected the wrong one without checking.
I realized what I had done only after the message showed as delivered.
I checked the recipient’s name.
Then I checked it again.
It was our family pastor.
The same man who had prayed over my family during difficult times, visited us when my grandmother was sick, and stood at the pulpit every Sunday preaching about wisdom and self-control.
And now he had seen me practically naked.

My husband admitted he had been lying to me for 11 years, and the worst part is that he genuinely thought he was doing something good.
We’ve been married for 11 years and have two children.
Last month, we were cleaning out some old files when I found a receipt for a storage unit I didn’t know we had.
I asked him about it, and he went quiet.
Eventually, he admitted he’d been paying for a storage unit since before we got married.
Inside were boxes of things belonging to his ex-girlfriend.
Old photographs, letters, gifts, even a dress she’d left at his apartment when they broke up.

The first thing my new coworker asked me was, “Why does everyone here think you quit three years ago?”
I laughed because I thought she was messing with me.
I had only been working at the company for six months.
I asked what she meant.
She said she’d heard my name mentioned during a conversation between two managers.
Apparently, they’d been talking about a former employee with the same name.
I told her that was impossible.
I had never worked there before.
She shrugged and changed the subject.
But the question stayed in my head.
That afternoon, I checked the employee directory.
My name wasn’t there.
Not even my current profile.
I asked HR if there was a problem with my account.
The woman at the desk looked at my employee ID.
Then she looked at me.
She went quiet.
Finally, she asked:
“Have you ever worked for us under a different name?”
I told her no.
She pulled up an old personnel file.
The photograph wasn’t me.
But the name was mine.
And the employment dates were from before I was born.

My nine-year-old daughter came home crying because her classmates said she was going to hell for dressing as the devil.
Three days later, someone shredded the Halloween costume I'd spent two weeks sewing and left it on our porch with a note about saving her soul.
It started with a girl named Maddie.
Lily came home on a Tuesday, dropped her backpack in the hallway, and stood there with red marker smudged across her fingers from the costume sketches she'd been drawing all week.
"Maddie said I'm a bad person," she whispered. "She said people who dress like the devil go to hell. Then everyone at lunch moved their trays away from me."
I knelt down and wiped her cheeks.
I wanted her to stand up for herself, so I gave her the words I thought would make her feel brave.
"The devil is a made-up creature people use to scare others into believing what their church teaches. My family doesn't believe in him, so stop bothering me."
Lily repeated every word the next morning.
By 3 p.m., the principal was calling. Maddie's mother had reported that Lily told the class her God was fake and that people who believed in the devil were being scared on purpose.
The neighborhood group chat filled with messages about my parenting.
I told myself I'd done nothing wrong. I'd defended my child.
Then I walked outside to get the mail and found Lily's costume on the welcome mat.
The red satin was shredded. The sequins had been ripped off. The little wire tail she'd begged me to make curl was cut into pieces.
Someone had pinned a note to the horns.
We are praying for your daughter's soul.
Lily saw it before I could hide it.
She picked up a strip of satin and pressed it against her chest. A sequin came loose and stuck to her palm.
"Mom," she whispered, "maybe I really am bad."
I wanted to find whoever had done it and make them regret every second.
But I didn't know that the girl who had started everything would be standing on my porch three nights later, wearing no costume and crying harder than my daughter had…..

My brother told the entire family I was selfish for refusing to pay for our father's retirement party. He just forgot to mention that I'd already paid off Dad's debts.
Last month, my aunt called me.
Aunt: "Your father is really hurt by what you've done."
Me: "What did I do?"
Aunt: "Your brother said you refused to contribute to Dad's retirement party."
I was confused.
For two years, I'd been sending Dad money every month to cover his medication, groceries, and outstanding loans.
Meanwhile, my older brother visited him every weekend and took all the credit for being the responsible son.
I asked my aunt one question.
Me: "Did my brother tell you who paid Dad's hospital bills last December?"
She went silent.
Then she said, "No."
That's when I realized this wasn't a misunderstanding.
Someone had been rewriting the story.

I listed my old laptop on Facebook Marketplace for $350
A girl messaged within an hour
Said she needed it for school and could pick it up that day
She came
Looked at it
I turned it on in front of her so she could see it worked
She paid cash and left
Three days later she messaged me saying it was broken and she wanted her money back

When I got my new job, my boss was unusually nice to me. He bought me lunch, gave me special treatment, and always offered to drive me home.
At first, I thought he was just a good boss. Until he started sending me strange messages at midnight.
One evening, he called me into his office and said, “I’ve had feelings for you for a while. I can make your life very comfortable if you give me a chance.”
I reminded him that he was married, but he laughed and said his wife didn't need to know
.
I rejected him, but things became uncomfortable at work. He started finding faults in everything I did and threatening to fire me.
Then one morning, his wife stormed into the office, walked straight toward me, and slapped a file onto my desk.
