You don't get 30 seconds to impress a recruiter.
Ladders' eye-tracking research found recruiters spend just 7.4 seconds scanning a resume.
What stands out? Job titles, employers, dates, and clear formatting.
Your resume gets scanned before it gets read. Make every second count

You get the culture you create or the culture you tolerate.
Whatever you keep allowing is what you're building.

Think of the best teammate you've had, or even the person you enjoy being around the most. They're likely:
Humble
Confident
Reliable
Secure
Leaders define culture. The best way to develop players that exhibit these traits is to exemplify them yourself.
It starts with you.

I was reading the recent Sports Business Journal Game Changers section. As an executive recruiter, of course the "Attributes I look for when hiring..." got my attention. I was looking for themes because I am a nerd. Curiosity (or curious) stood out...

If you want to get ahead, just be easy to work with. Show up on time. Do what you said you'd do. Bring solutions, not problems. Never create drama. Be responsive. Be emotionally consistent. Be kind. People will always want to support someone who just makes their life easier.

The best time to meet an executive recruiter is when you don't need one.
By the time you do, you're one of hundreds of people reaching out.
Recruiters fill senior roles through people they already know and trust. If they don't know you before the search starts, you're probably not on their list.
Here's how to be on it before it matters:
→ Make your LinkedIn easy to search: Use the titles, industries, and keywords recruiters actually search for.
→ Reach out with no ask: A short intro like "Not looking now, but I'd love to stay in touch" is something recruiters remember.
→ Be helpful first: Refer strong candidates for roles that aren't a fit for you. Recruiters don't forget the people who help them fill a search.
→ Show your expertise publicly: Posts, panels, and commentary in your field make you easier to find and easier to vouch for.
→ Check in once or twice a year: A quick update on a win or a new role keeps you top of mind without being pushy.
Recruiters don't go looking for strangers. They call people they already know.
Make sure you're one of those people before the call matters.
Have you ever gotten an opportunity because a recruiter already knew you? What started that connection? Your story might help someone building their network right now.
