For me, this is pure magic. Hatfield and the North took the Caravan/Soft Machine vibes to new territory. Plenty of humour in the songs and titles too. #albums2hearlisteningparty

Remembering drummer Phillip "Pip" Pyle (of Gong, Hatfield and the North, and National Health) was born on April 4th in England. "One of England's best and most adventurous drummers, a good composer and songwriter, a fine lyricist and a deranged sonic experimentalist" Dave Stewart

‘Hatfield and the North’ (1974) is an absolute gem of an album and a Canterbury scene classic. Endlessly fascinating and bursting with ludicrous humour, jazz rock key changes and time signatures. The centrepiece is the keyboard driven ‘Son of 'There's No Place like Homerton’.
