There is something seriously wrong at the BBC.
This is the headline they used for a Muslim peace activist who was murdered by an Islamist group for preaching against radicalism.

Replying to @JDVance
@JDVance, if you don't condemn your friend @TuckerCarlson for writing the foreward for a book outlining the "Final Solution for Jews," I will use every single ounce of energy I have from now until you are out of politics to ensure you never get elected anywhere ever again.

Islamic extremism seeks to eradicate the Christian presence in the Middle East through terrorism, violence, systematic persecution, intimidation, and forced displacement.
Over the past century, the Christian share of the Middle East’s population has declined dramatically, from an estimated 20% to approximately 4% today. This alarming demographic collapse reflects a century of persecution, conflict, displacement, and profound political and social upheaval.

LAWSUIT: We’re suing Michigan State University for punishing an elected trustee who refused to sign a speech code that restricts criticism of university leadership.
Michael Balow criticized MSU’s handling of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal and its withholding of documents related to a $100 million athletics investment.
The board chair accused Michael and other trustees of “undermining the president” and MSU’s administration. The board then revised its ethics code, seen below, to require trustees to “uphold the university’s reputation” and support majority decisions.
When Michael refused to sign, MSU used the code to exclude him from university events and revoke his credentials, limiting his ability to carry out his duties.
Think about that. Elected officials tasked with overseeing a public university can be punished for questioning its leadership. And the very people they're supposed to hold accountable get to decide what criticism is permissible.
Trustees are supposed to provide independent oversight, not rubber-stamp university decisions. The First Amendment protects their right to dissent, even when the board majority doesn't like what they have to say.

At Works In Progress we are always looking for new writers with smart, fresh takes the world needs to hear. Could you be one of them?
We publish longreads on tech, policy, economics, architecture, culture, and all sorts of things. If you write for us your work will be printed in our beautiful magazine, read by many of the world's most interesting people. We also pay well.
Here are some examples of the sort of articles we would love to commission:
- Why isn't there more semiconductor manufacturing in Silicon Valley?
- Fifteen years ago, CRISPR was an incredibly promising new medical technology. What has happened to all the CRISPR drugs?
- Japan was once the stock example of a low-fertility country, but it has staved off further decline as other East Asian countries have plummeted past it. How?
- Poland has had exceptional post-communism economic growth, and is on track to overtake Britain in wealth per capita in 2030. What caused the Polish economic miracle?
If you have an idea for something you think is the sort of thing we would publish - or the sort of thing we *should* be publishing - please get in touch, or send a pitch to [email protected].

We at Stripe Press are looking for a new Managing Editor, based in New York City. Come and join the most exciting publisher in business.
I’m hiring an NYC-based Managing Editor for @stripepress. The ideal person for this role has substantial editorial experience at a publishing imprint or another publication and is fluent in our universe of ideas, but ideally isn’t my (or our) ideological twin.
Stripe Press is a small team with an unusual amount of autonomy. Right now we’re obsessively focused on the future: expanding our catalogue, rethinking our assumptions about the kinds of books we publish (fiction!?), and thinking about how to connect our readers w/ one another beyond the pop-ups we’ve been hosting since 2022.
Hoping to meet a lot of brilliant people who love books and are excited about building a world-class publishing institution: stripe.com/careers/listing/m…
